Campus Carry Opinion
It's pretty much crunch time and we will know soon what will happen with campus carry in Texas. Just wondering what everyones feelings are on the out come of campus carry. I know many of the members here including have been there for the details of this campus carry legislation and would be interested in the general opinion of this forum.
Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I want it to pass but I voted undecided. A month ago I was more optimistic but I underestimated the number of legislators in favor of campus rape and robbery and want the victims disarmed.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I do not believe CC will pass, nor do I think the Parking Lot or Range bills will make it to the Gov. I think the only thing that will pass 2A wise, is the "perk" for legislators. I'm too old for "baby steps" to mean anything to me.

"Undecided", since you asked what I think will happen, not what should happen.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

G26ster,
sadly looks like you are right.
At this rate, the "Children" will be grandparents by the time we get some good changes. IF EVER!

If they cannot agree on a budget within the next couple of days, then it is probably dead. It's my understanding that it took 15 years to pass concealed-carry, so it may take another session to pass campus-carry. I'm in for the long-haul.
On the bright side, we could pick up at least one pro-gun seat in the Senate for 2013 with Wendy Davis' district being busted-up. There is also talk that Ogden might retire early, and his replacement would likely be pro-gun.

He was supposed to step down after last session, so I'm not sure I'd call his retirement "early."Coogan wrote:There is also talk that Ogden might retire early, and his replacement would likely be pro-gun.
I'd also be concerned that his replacement would be beholden to the administration at A&M as well rather than to the voters in his district, most of whom I imagine support campus carry.

I think it's the 4th quarter and we're ahead by 10 points. Yeah, it'll pass.
Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I hope you're right. I'm leaning that way but I lack confidence after all the shenanigans. I'm also disappointed it doesn't apply to private universities, and that will definitely affect how I vote next year.mgood wrote:I think it's the 4th quarter and we're ahead by 10 points. Yeah, it'll pass.

I have mixed feelings about the private universities.apostate wrote:I hope you're right. I'm leaning that way but I lack confidence after all the shenanigans. I do believe in property rights.
If I own a business and I don't want anyone to wear blue shirts in my place of business, I can ban them. I can ask anyone in a blue shirt to leave, refuse to serve them, and call the police if they refuse to go. If I don't wan't any law abiding citizens carrying guns, I can post a 30.06 sign. (Keeping the less law abiding elements out may prove more difficult.) That's the right of a business owner.
I'm not sure why a private university should have less rights.
Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I'll agree when they give up their taxpayer money and their ability to have a real police department. If it walks like a duck...mgood wrote:I'm not sure why a private university should have less rights.
However, even then, I think private universities (all schools, actually) should be removed from the list of prohibited places. Like other businesses, they should have to post 30.06 signs to make it illegal.

Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I see the public universities crying foul, and it backfiring. And the lawmakers decide to make private universities comply, sine they're getting some state money, as well.apostate wrote:I'll agree when they give up their taxpayer money and their ability to have a real police department. Then, in a panic, every single hoplophobic student goes out of state for school, and we take back the university systems and make them the best in the country.

Re: Campus Carry Opinion
I'm not too happy at all!
Same delay tactics as last session.
We need to fire all of them and get some in there that will actually pass something without messing around just wasting time every two years!

RT #sgfstexas TX Gun-Free Schools .... says Rep. Turner says conferees might have reached deal on budget. #sb1811 #sb1581 #gunsoncampus
IMHO That's not good news (rumor?) if Turner is the source
