Thugs stab deaf people

#1

Post by Thomas »

An unintelligent thug saw a group of deaf people making signs with their hands and thought they were part of a gang. The thug left to get other thugs who all then stabbed the deaf people multiple times. Luckily the stabbings are not life-threatening, and the thugs have been arrested.

Another case of "the more things change, the more they remain the same".

In the Spring of 1984 I was taking lip-reading classes. One day the instructor lady came in all upset. Apparently some Chicago cops had seen some deaf kids on the street corner waiting for the bus, and signing to each other. The cops thought it had to do with gang signs, ordered them to stop and when they continued, beat them up pretty badly. None of them died.

...it's dangerous to underestimate your enemy...crooks, gangbangers, dope dealers...are often highly intelligent and focused on their "job"...it's easy to think all criminals are dumb, but it will rise up and bite you...

Yes. There are the ones that get away with crimes. There are also gang leaders. There are also ones with MBAs. It goes on...

:iagree:

Just because they're unlikely to publish papers on a grand unification theory doesn't mean that they aren't true experts at what they do. That's worth keeping in mind if you don't regularly play in the same league.

In a close encounter, they're starting out with a lot more high value cards than the average CHL holder.

What a great way to "bait and catch" gang members: Just have a group of people flash signs while police lie in wait.

:iagree:

While they do some dumb things just like the rest of us, they often more than make up for what they lack in IQ with cunning, agility, street experience and explosive violence.

If you haven't spent a lot of time in their world, you should be aware that they have a whole repertoire of tactics that will astonish you when seen for the first time.

As Speedsix sagely advised, it's a major and potentially fatal error to underestimate them. They should be regarded like rattlesnakes - fast, deadly, and capable of things you wouldn't imagine if you hadn't seen them for yourself.

That's why avoidance is golden, distance is your friend, and close encounters, even when armed, do not always have happy endings.

Sage advice indeed!

I could see "Gang banger" hunting becoming a high-stakes outlaw sport with many big game hunting aspects but with an even more dangerous prey.
