Another Gun Goes Off in Houston
A woman was killed Saturday when a gun went off inside a vehicle killing a woman.
Authorities said the man, who was sitting in the back seat, claims he was checking whether his gun was loaded when it went off killing the woman. The man was arrested.

Re: Another Gun Goes Off in Houston
Not much information to go on. My gut instinct says murder, and a very bad cover story.
Of course a smart person would know to keep finger off the trigger etc...
And if the person was responsible enough to check a gun to see if it's loaded, they are probably responsible enough not to point it at some one.
I wonder what seat he was sitting in and if he was right-handed (if he was in the right seat). It seems to me that most people when checking the gun, have the barrel pointed to the side. I've only seen people check their guns with the barrel pointing in front of them when their arms are stretched out (and standing). In an SUV, there may be enough room, but I would think that a person would still feel too confined for that action. When sitting, and pointing the barrel forward, I've only seen people point the barrel at an angle toward the ground. EDIT: One other situation crossed my mind: they might point the barrel up (with gun close to chest) when racking it or inspecting it.
So yeah, probably murder.

Sparse details, but said he was in the back seat and she was front seat ...
I was wondering how many were in the car etc. too.
Coming from .... Going to ...
Relationship of the two involved.
Will be interested as it develops and details get released.

Obviously the guy is not a member of this forum. How many people need to do a gun check while driving around at 2:45AM?Police said the woman was in the car with a man near the intersection of Collingsworth and Kashmere around 2:45 a.m. when the incident occurred.

How did he check to see if it was loaded? By pulling the trigger?

One of the things interesting about Cooper's Four Rules is you have to violate multiple rules for someone to get hurt.
RULE 1: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED -- FAIL
RULE 2: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY -- FAIL
RULE 3: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER TIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET -- FAIL
RULE 4: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET -- FAIL

I am right handed and will point a gun which ever direction is away from people to check if it is loaded or not. Plus, I check it before leaving the house so there is no need once I have left.
I guess the woman he murdered was not the driver? He may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but he couldn't be that dumb, could he?

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

He probably was engaged in a philosophical discussion and therefore was distracted. He should have called Mr. Wolfe immediately.C-dub wrote:I am right handed and will point a gun which ever direction is away from people to check if it is loaded or not. This story says that she was in the drivers seat, and the man was directly behind her. It did not say whether the car was in motion.C-dub wrote:I am right handed and will point a gun which ever direction is away from people to check if it is loaded or not. Re: Another Gun Goes Off in Houston
I'm always amazed at how the accidental gun going off discharge is always fatal. When one thinks of the odds of all the possible directions the gun could be pointed when the trigger is accidentally pulled, this guy should go to Vegas.
The odds also go up dramatically when the only witness is the victim who has died. It also seems rare that these fatal accidental discharges occur with more than one other person to witness it.
And let me guess the bullet did not go though the back of the seat but went high directly into the back of the head of the woman in the front seat.

Well, that's how they teach it in IDPA.
Not realky, you are supposed to show clear, and drop the hammer on empty chamber while pointing your firearm down the range.
