Re: the long lost birth certificate
We really do have short-memories. I can't think of a single President in my lifetime that didn't have some sort of "issue" floating about.

Re: the long lost birth certificate
Not a president, but John McCain received quite a bit of flack regarding whether being born on a US military base was good enough to be considered a "natural born citizen" eligible for the Presidency.loadedliberal wrote: I would like anyone to point out another president that had to deal with an issue like this. I hate to say it and I do not take the words lightly but the only reason I see that could explain it is that he is black. Like I said there are many valid reasons not to like Obama, choosing this one makes you look like an idiot.
And instead of just going automatically for the race card, I think the fact that he spent some time growing up outside of the US is what causes people to wonder about it. Can anyone think of another President in the last 100 years that spent their formative years in another country?
But, good job on defaulting to the race card.

THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE SHOULD NOT AND HAS NOT BEEN AND ISSUE FOR ANY OTHER PRESIDENT I DO NOT REMEMBER PEOPLE DEMANDING GEORGE BUSH RELESE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE I DID NOT "PLAY THE RACE CARD" I SIMPLY STATED THAT IF THIS IS YOUR MAIN ISSUE WITH THE PRESIDENT IS HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE ITS EITHER RACE OR IDIOCY TAKE YOUR PICK.

Re: the long lost birth certificate
Now you're parsing words. Sen. McCain's birth certificate was an issue in the last election. Why do you suppose that was? Racism? Idiocy? Furthermore, I haven't seen anyone say that Obama's birth certificate is their "main" issue with him, but even if it was, how does that even imply, much less impute racism? Apparently you think it's either racism or idiocy to demand that the Constitution be followed?loadedliberal wrote:THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE SHOULD NOT AND HAS NOT BEEN AND ISSUE FOR ANY OTHER PRESIDENT I DO NOT REMEMBER PEOPLE DEMANDING GEORGE BUSH RELESE HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE I DID NOT "PLAY THE RACE CARD" I SIMPLY STATED THAT IF THIS IS YOUR MAIN ISSUE WITH THE PRESIDENT IS HIS BIRTH CERTIFICATE ITS EITHER RACE OR IDIOCY TAKE YOUR PICK.
It's obvious this issue is irritating to you. I'm not sure why. It's fascinating and quite humorous to me. I believe Obama milks it for all it's worth because it distracts from a serious discussion of his policies, which are a disaster for America and because it allows him to portray his opponents as....wait for it....racists or idiots. Strange coincidence, huh?

If you are implying something, you should read my previous posts on this thread, lest you be in error. My post was about hijacking threads, which is something I do not particularly like to see.fulano wrote:More than you'll ever want to know about a birth certificate...sugar land dave wrote:I'm sorry, I thought this post was about a birth certificate, but someone seems to have made it into an oil company post.

Re: the long lost birth certificate
A man with foreign ties and upbringing (foreign father and foreign step-father with an overseas childhood), a history that can't be easily verified, questionable associations with Islam (through childhood) and Christianity (through his long-standing church affiliation) who does not have much of a public history (due to being a junior senator) is asked to prove that he's an American citizen when some aberrations with his filing process are noted by a few in a fringe. He adamantly refuses to verify his legitimacy for a very long time so that suspicions grow out of a small fringe to the point that a full quarter of our country does not believe he's American born while another large percentage have questions or doubts.loadedliberal wrote:The most important thing to note is the birth certificate should never of been an issue, I would like anyone to point out another president that had to deal with an issue like this. I've never followed or belonged to the birther movement and am not now inclined to do so. Painting it as racist is really ridiculous, though. This is the way our politics as usual go now. The same junk was thrown at Palin, another unknown to the majority, and to Joe the Plumber who are both white suburbanites. The media and the political masterminds go for a shotgun approach attacking any and everything and hope something sticks. In this case, Obama's refusal to deal with a little issue allowed it to become a big issue and it stuck. Trying to make him out to be an exception because he's black is the only attempt to pull race into the issue I've seen. I'd much rather an acknowledgment that this is what all public political figures are now facing and a denouncement of the current cut-throat methods on all sides because we really do have more important things to spend our time, money, and energy on than vilifying the character of those who are throwing their hat in the ring to help govern our country, on either side of the aisle.

Don't insult me by suggesting that I have not read The Constitution. It should have never been an issue this long. With the Certificate of Live Birth that was released in '08 along with the birth announcement in the Hawaii newspaper that at the time was only done by the department of health. The republican Governor of Hawaii saying he had seen the long form certificate personally, among many many other that "claimed" he was indeed born in the united states. Also the burden of proof lies with the accuser, I saw no evidence anywhere that said he was born elsewhere. And as to the John Mccain not being born on U.S. soil, yes I do remember that being an issue for about 2 days until a court ruling settled the matter. There are still lawsuits regarding Obama eligibility for President.

Re: the long lost birth certificate
I've been trying to stay out of the birth certificate thing since it first came up in the media. Here's my $0.02 worth: The U.S. Constitution requires that the president be a natural born citizen. This does not mean someone via a C-Section is ineligible, it means that someone who is a naturalised citizen is ineligible. I personally do not care for the policies, politics, associates, or apparent beliefs of President Obama but my understanding is that his mother was a U.S. Citizen at the time of his birth making him a citizen at the time of his birth which in turn means that he is a natural born U.S. Citizen.

I cannot pick what you choose to feel, but declaring members of the board racist or idiots and shouting it in all caps is not something good for any discussion on a gun forum.loadedliberal wrote:sugar land dave wrote:Instead of shouting, pick up the Constitution. I support the Constitution. I think that as written, it was one of mankind's greatest works. I think that there are elements of both parties that will do anything to further their cause, no matter how despicable. I think that I reside somewhere outside and above such matters. Within myself I am comfortable; I see what is real, what is perceived, and what is as yet undreamed by many. No political party is there.
