I got rear-ended at a stop light up in Austin a few months back by a truck with a bumper that looked a lot like that. It sure cost him (and his insurance company) a lot more money than it would have with a regular bumper, despite the low speed.Pawpaw wrote:How about a bumper made of schedule 40 pipe and 1/4" diamond-plate steel?

My point is, when you are at fault for the accident the damage you are doing to someone else and their property is much more extensive.

I doubt the TOTAL for repairing both vehicles was more. If he did have the bumper I showed, his truck likely did not need any repair.tallmike wrote:I got rear-ended at a stop light up in Austin a few months back by a truck with a bumper that looked a lot like that. Also, there is a safety factor involved. The bumper I showed will not override a car's back bumper and get into the vehicle with you.

My liability insurance is higher than my wife's because my vehicle weighs around 7,000 lbs. rolling and hers weighs around 4 K.tallmike wrote:I got rear-ended at a stop light up in Austin a few months back by a truck with a bumper that looked a lot like that. Weight means more PE and KE and therefore more damage. E=MV^2
Kind of like why a 10mm is better than a .357 or a 9mm.
