...here we go again with the "goin' to jail" threat...when will you guys realize that most officers have sense enough to know the law, and would simply tell the shop owner that his sign was unenforceable as it was only half right....and tell the CHL carrier that he now had verbal notice and shouldn't carry there again...that's the LEGAL way to do it for all concerned...I will not give the sign my respect until they care enough to post it acccording to law...and I will not bring it up in conversation so that it can be corrected...I am a regular customer at an establishment whose corporate office told him to post...he posted only in English inside the store...I ignore it...and I carry and he knows it...and I buy guns from him...it's OFTEN the manager's way to soothe corporate and still keep his customers...and we just don't talk about it...I get some sweet gun deals there...TDDude wrote:I'm not sure how high the letters are but it's pretty plain they don't want you in there. Just go in there and let them know that you and your cohorts will not be spending a dime in that place.

For the most part agree, and probably would 100% except I had been told by the local head of the state Troopers his men guard the mall, and anyone who conceals carry and caught will be arrested (they just had a homemade "No CHL permitted"). I just agree to not let them catch me and continue. I assume if someone of his ranking is that ignorant, he can't be alone.WildBill wrote:speedsix wrote:...here we go again with the "goin' to jail" threat...when will you guys realize that most officers have sense enough to know the law, and would simply tell the shop owner that his sign was unenforceable as it was only half right....that's the whole reason we HAVE law...so that both parties know where they stand and what's required...so how 'bout we stop with "the sky's falling" kind of scare tactics..
Yup, like you say.. find out how? If my concealment is that bad, maybe I deserve to be arrested!speedsix wrote:...a lot of high-ranking officers are too busy to keep up with what the line troops have to know...but they're not as likely to be fired for getting the department sued because of a false arrest, either...the guys/gals we deal with on the streets, for the MOST part, know the law and keep up better...so IF someone finds out you're carrying(HOW?) and calls them...it may be a bit unpleasant but jail is unlikely...
...I've carried legally and not for the better part of 45 years...(and no, I am not endorsing lawbreaking, just stating the facts), and have often approached and talked to officers from many depts. while doing so...I have never been spotted...we can't be AFRAID of the threats made by ignorant public officials...or we'll live in fear...it would, if it ever came up, be a learning experience for the one who ordered/effected the arrest...we ALL have rules we have to follow...and penalties to pay when we don't...there have been suits already that have resulted in large settlements by the jurisdiction to the person falsely arrested...and they're more careful than they used to be...
...90% ( my guess) of the signage problems come from those who want to discuss them with the business...instead of going about our business, honoring the signs the law says we have to, and ignoring the rest...quietly...
Um, only if it was INTENTIONAL failure to conceal! Otherwise you DON"T deserve to be arrested.wgoforth wrote:

True... I was being facecious just saying I should be able to conceal better than that.sjfcontrol wrote:Um, only if it was INTENTIONAL failure to conceal! Otherwise you DON"T deserve to be arrested.wgoforth wrote:

It seems rather Early for the Heartland to be so harsh towards legally carrying citizens. Perhaps the local law enforcement needs more or better training.wgoforth wrote:For the most part agree, and probably would 100% except I had been told by the local head of the state Troopers his men guard the mall, and anyone who conceals carry and caught will be arrested (they just had a homemade "No CHL permitted"). I wish that were true, but I've personally heard more officers give incorrect information about the chl laws than the other way around. I certainly wouldn't count on them knowing what makes a valid sign.WildBill wrote:speedsix wrote:...here we go again with the "goin' to jail" threat...when will you guys realize that most officers have sense enough to know the law, and would simply tell the shop owner that his sign was unenforceable as it was only half right....that's the whole reason we HAVE law...so that both parties know where they stand and what's required...so how 'bout we stop with "the sky's falling" kind of scare tactics..
