Bowie County: Prisoner kills deputy, escapes, captured

In New Boston, Bowie County (Texarkana area), today a prisoner being escorted through the courthouse allegedly seized a sidearm from a deputy, fatally shot the deputy, and escaped in the van that was supposed to be used to transport him to jail.

The suspect was caught in nearby Ashdown, Arkansas. He awaits extradition and will be charged with capital murder.

Condolences to the family of the deceased officer.

I thought agencies had stopped having armed guards in direct contact with prisoners just because of this type of incident.
