Summary...a guy picks up a wounded cops gun and fights off the robbers. Might be charged with carrying without a license.... :banghead:

Maybe they should drop "New" from their name as they are looking more and more like England.

The agent, who is not licensed to carry a gun, could face charges, sources said.
This is insanity! :banghead: This agent should pack his bags ... and move to Texas. :txflag:

The vast majority of the comments are in response to that one line in the article...
And the vast majority of those think it's crazy to charge the guy for shooting at armed robbers.

The issue is whether he committed a crime by chasing the BG's and firing at them while they were fleeing.
No way I would vote for conviction.

I read the "possible charges" part in the news article as the media spin to keep folks from getting any logical ideas from the lifesaving actions of a citizen who used a gun to end a robbery / attempted murder incident.

No DA would touch a charge like that under the reported circumstances, even in New York. The guy will get a medal from the PD eventually.

I hope that he does get a medal. It's just so irritating to read stuff like that.

Another story, only in NY, one fights a mafia hanchman in his own business in self-defense!. AND, both the the self-defender and the hanchman are both charged with attempted murder

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The owner of a famous Brooklyn pizzeria may face attempted murder charges on Monday over a knife fight he got into with a suspected mob henchman over the weekend.
Brooklyn prosecutors said they plan to charge Mark Iacono, 43, with attempted murder for a knife fight he got into with Benny Geritano, 38. Iacano is the owner of Lucali's Pizza, a restaurant frequented by the likes of Jay-Z and Beyonce, which is consistently ranked one of the top pizza places in New York City.
According to police, Geritano pulled out a knife on Iacano on Friday and stabbed him several times in the back, stomach and thighs. Police would not say what the dispute was over but said Geritano, who knows Iacano, is believed to be a henchman for a mafia-run loan shark business.
Iacano was rushed to the Lutheran Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition. Prosecutors said Geritano showed up in court Sunday claiming he acted in self defense, showing the court knife wounds to his own body. His attorney, Steven Kartagener, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Prosecutors said Geritano was charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Iacano was expected to be charged with the same felonies, once his arraignment date is set, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors declined to elaborate on why Iacano is facing the same charges in the case and declined to elaborate on what role Iacano had in the knife fight.
Geritano is due back in court on May 21 and no arraignment date has been set yet for Iacano.

Just followed the link to read.

There is an additional section (just to the right) that says the security guy will not be charged according to the local DA.

'bout time.

You can bet the DA didn't have to think real hard about that one.

The proposal that such a charge could be entertained almost certainly originated in the far left bias of either the management ranks of the reporting media outlet or the reporter, and was based on politics rather than news.

You'll note that the possibility of charges was not attributed to any legal or law enforcement authority at all, not even one "requesting anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak on the issue " - a dead giveaway it was made up by the folks who printed it.

I question what 'Sources' the media was quoting. I personally think they often quote something said in passing as a funny comment, like a cop joking with another saying 'Well, if he didn't have a permit, he might get charged with illegal possession of a firearm' and put it in the paper to try and stir controversy. :banghead:
