WTB 1911 Government 5" model chambered in 9mm

The title says it all. I'm looking for a 1911 with the 5" barrel chambered in 9mm. I would prefer an STI Spartan but if you have another brand you wish to sale let me know.

I know nothing of the quality, and I'm not really a Taurus fan... but it seemed like a pretty good deal. I'm intrigued to say the least. Good luck.

Looks like the Taurus 1911 is forged from solid steel (slide and frame), where as the Spartan has a cast frame and extruded steel slide made by Armscor (Rock Island Armory) in the Philippines. I wouldn't dare say the Taurus is a better weapon than the STI, but it's far cheaper, has a lifetime warranty, and appears to be a more solid platform (slide/frame anyway).

Most....REALLY?? I'm not pumping Taurus here, although my son has one, but between him and his fiancé and me, we own 6 1911s. Three are Kimbers. One is a Taurus. One is a Springfield. And one is my dad's service .45 from WW2. None are STIs.
And then there is THIS FORUM MEMBER whose STI fell from the height of a toilet paper dispenser in a public restroom and literally broke parts off of it when it hit the ground.... ....a distance of perhaps two feet. I'm not impressed.

They may be beautiful, but they aren't magic. They're just 1911s. And BTW, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that there are a lot more Glock owners than 1911 owners of any brand. Don't get me wrong. I love me some 1911, and the only Glock in my house belongs to She Who Must Be Obeyed, but that doesn't make STI the gun that "most shooters use."

were I in the market for another 1911, I probably wouldn't buy either. Don't misunderstand my reply to Greg's post, I have nothing favorable/detrimental to say about either, and have not owned nor fired either. The Taurus seems by far the better value (to me) for a 9mm 1911. Most 9mm 1911's I've seen are plagued by problems (be it initially or through the life of the weapon), mostly related to feeding. I don't know that to be inherent to either the Spartan or Taurus, but it seems to be the case with multiple manufacturers. If STI were manufacturing the Spartan, maybe... but it's basically built/OEMed by Armscor (slide, barrel and frame) and fit by STI with a couple of premium parts here and there. For roughly $100-$150 difference in cost, the same (lifetime) warranty, and similar features... I'd pass on paying for the name (STI) in a 9mm 1911. In a .45acp 1911, completely different story.

Maybe he meant to say "competitive shooters", but even then you will see a mix of Para's in there along with the full custom weapons.

I saw a couple of Rock Island 1911's in 9mm at the Dallas Arms Collectors show last weekend. One advertised around $390 out the door. I was very tempted but didn't bite. I ended up buying a Para 16.40 from a local gunshop. I'm gonna break it in at some steel plate matches this summer.

That is a weird page... The picture shows the Taurus 1911 in .45 acp. Says it right on the frame but the specs say 9mm. Maybe I am slow but wouldn't a 1911 style pistol in 9mm hold more than 9+1 rounds?

smith and wesson has their 9mm pro 1911.i have one.its a very nice shooter.taurus?eh not so much.

IMHO there is no one brand 1911 that is any more reliable than any other. I'm partial to Springfield (love their customer service and warranty), but as far as a 9mm 1911, I must say my Colt Defender (3" bbl) has been 100% since new. As far as Amscor or Imbel made products, they are fine. To me, there's nothing magic about "Made in USA" when it comes to firearms.

I got all when I opened my recent posts and saw I had eleven replies to this thread. Then I saw it was just a debate over which one is the best and it made me .

I may have shifted direction after reading all this and just go with a Glock 34. I can get one for about $500 and it seems like it would be ready to go out of the box.

Just the same the add remains in case anyone has a 1911 in 9mm.
