Re: CHL and no carry
It's unknowable. There are people who carry only at night, only when they are transporting valuables, only on road trips, etc.74novaman wrote:... the number of us that actually go armed daily must be incredibly small.
Then there are judges and other public officials, LEOs, retired LEOs, unlicensed people taking advantage of MPA, and those who consider the 2nd amendment to be the only license that they need.
I have always found it informative that so few people defend themselves with firearms outside of their homes or businesses. Granted that the typical CHL holder is less likely to be targeted as a victim, these incidents are rare.

Re: CHL and no carry
I don't carry as much as I should because of my carry weapon. It's bigger than I would like. I carry about 50% of the time now but when I wear shorts I don't. I'm about to purchase something smaller to carry all the time and that would work better w/shorts.

I carry more with shorts. I like the cargo shorts and my Wilderness Instructor Belt.pcgizzmo wrote:I don't carry as much as I should because of my carry weapon. It's bigger than I would like. Exactly.
Also we don't hang around slums, dive bars, etc., or associate with dodgy people.

Re: CHL and no carry
When I first initiated getting a CHL, my primary motivation was to be legal in carrying in my boat while fishing. Since joining this wonderful forum, I have seen the error of my original intention and have carried 24\7 since recieving my plastic.
Application Recieved in Austin 2/4/11

Probably. And there's only ~9000 registered members on the forum, out of 400,000+ CHL holders?WildBill wrote:I believe that it is. As a wag, I would say 5-10% at the most. There's not a ton of Texans that even have a CHL, and if most of us know at least one person with a CHL that almost never carries, the number of us that actually go armed daily must be incredibly small.
And Seamus, you're right. There's lots of people that don't have a CHL but carry anyway (like a granny I know that's had a S&W revolver in her purse for as long as I or anyone else has known her....)

That translates into a 73% participation rate, which is excellent.
You have to register and log on to use the "newposts" link: search.php?search_id=newposts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Perhaps some people register for that reason and don't have a new issue or question to post about.
I have to mention that some percentage of registered users have been banned or quit posting in disgust or shame. I don't know if the names of banned spammers still show up or are deleted.

Re: CHL and no carry
My guess is that is a pretty comprehensive list, with complacency being the primary reason. They only probably think of carrying a gun when they go to make the business bank deposit, or a nighttime trip to the ATM... stuff like that.seamusTX wrote:It's human nature to become alarmed about an immediate threat and then gradually return to a state of complacency. Some people get a CHL and/or buy a weapon because of a threat to themselves or someone close. Then the threat recedes and they don't worry about it any more than shark bites.
- Physical discomfort (bad holsters or bulky handguns)
- Incompatibility with clothing
- Fear of being "made" and arrested (highly exaggerated, IMHO)
- Need to go to too many prohibited places (lawyers, for example)
- Prohibited by employer or school rules
- Spouse or other family objections
- Complacency

I'll be in the 'have and won't carry daily' category in not too long (class is scheduled for tomorrow, everything else is already done) mainly due to my employer having a policy that by coming on property you are granting them permission to search your vehicle/person/property for prohibited items and that they will not only terminate employment, but state the company's intention to prosecute for criminal trespass if they do find anything (after all, in their opinion, bringing contraband on property past the signs prohibiting it is enough to show intent).
Lots of folks at the office are watching the current employee parking lot bills and letting our reps know that we support them.
