Highway Patrolman in Tennessee

I was visiting a congregation in Tennessee and met a member who was a Highway Patrolman. Concealed Carry came up. He said, "I'm against it... we shouldn't be arming women and children. Get them pepper spray or something" Hmm... last time I checked, we had women law enforcement and military, and you had to be 21 or older (unless you were military) to get the license.

When I've had these kinds of conversations, my next question is about the 2nd Amendment and why the person doesn't believe in constitutional carry. The answers are amazing.

I wonder if the officer would be anxious to take on some of the good people that he deals with using only pepper spray. Sometimes they forget that those same "good people" are the ones who break into houses or attempt armed robbery so that citizens have to deal with them, too.

Off topic, but actually, Granny mentioned she was from Tennessee, but they never said what state they were from. All indications are they came from northwest Arkansas or southwest Missouri in the Ozark Mountains as they talked about Silver Dollar City, Joplin, Branson and Eureka Springs. That is my old stomping grounds to the west of where I grew up.

Now, on topic, you may think Tennessee is like that, but not necessarily. You will find there are male chauvinists in many areas and probably just as many or more in Texas as there are in other states.

Saaaaaayy....My mother was born in Muddig which is close to Bugtussle which is close to Cumby which is close to Sulphur Springs.. and the vet over there was published. So the Muddig area produces some fine doctors.

Of course TN has not been known to be too gun friendly, oddly enough. Until 4 yrs ago you still had to attempt retreat from your own home, and only got restaurant carry last year.

I have the feeling that morons can live in almost any state. I think it was Ayoob who commented that there are two types of LEO's that do not appreciate an armed civilian populace. The first is the Chief who is beholden to an anti-gun mayor. He is going to echo the mayor's feelings. The second is the newer LEO who has a great deal of self-image wrapped up in his badge and weapon. Most LEO's, from what I have read, like having law-abiding citizens carrying.

My sister and her husband live in Tennessee. They bristle with weapons everywhere they go. They reload, they cruise the forums, they prepare to bug out when it hits the fan. They may actually be a little bit over the top, but that is their thing. They have never mentioned Tennessee being a pain relating to carrying. One of my favorite YouTube fellows is Hickok45. He resides there. Fun guy to watch and listen to.

Tennessee is like many other states, and they have pockets of more liberal views. These many times focus themselves around universities, major metropolitan and capitol city areas. In turn, there is a liberal influence on the law making due to input from these people being in close proximity or having input into the legislation and legislators.

Tennessee has always had a stigma of being a 'rough and rowdy' hillbilly state, with them brewing moonshine and shooting up the town on Saturday nights when everyone came back from the 'Stills in the Hills'. And, partially that was true in the mountain areas. I think this is why the more liberal folks around the capitol of Nashville worked to to try and keep that curtailed when they enacted gun laws, whether it was real or just a perceived view.

This is really not much different that many states where the liberal pockets and voices influence the legislation and control over what laws are enacted statewide. Think Illinois, and even Texas somewhat.
