Autumn Dawn Murry, 21, who was arrested earlier this month in connection with the shooting death of a cabdriver Tesfaye Arze, was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on counts of burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, murder with use of a deadly weapon and two counts of robbery with use of a deadly weapon.

It appears that this lady is also a suspect in a convenience story robbery that occurred about an hour before the cabdriver, Arze, was shot and killed.
Police are looking for, another woman, Felicia Mosely, 18, who was seen getting into Arze's cab with Murry, has been named a person of interest in the case.

murder with use of a deadly weapon
Not to make light of this tragedy, but is murder with a deadly weapon worse than murder with bare hands or poison?

I am guessing, but it probably carries a higher penalty or maybe a special circumstance that makes it easier to get the death penalty.

Probably.

In Texas this would be capital murder regardless of the weapon, because it was murder committed in connection with another felony (robbery in this case).

In Texas, capital murder carries the death penalty.

This explains the charge of "murder with a deadly weapon". It can reduce the discretion of a judge when determining prison sentences.
Nevada Chief Justice Bob Rose told the legislative committee studying Nevada's sentencing, that mandatory minimums are especially harsh when combined with the deadly weapon rule which, in Nevada, doubles the minimum sentence for a crime.

"The deadly weapon enhancement has resulted in many many very long sentences in Nevada," he said.

"What I do object to are mandatory minimum sentences that, in some cases, prevent a district judge from tailoring a sentence to fit the offense and the broadly defined deadly weapon enhancement that doubles an already stiff sentence in most serious crimes," he said. "The end result is that we see many very, very long sentences assessed, but with no mechanism to review them.

"In my judgment, this prevents the state from making the punishment fit the crime."

Death penalty or life in prison without possibility of parole, IIRC.

What a tragic shame. I hope all who are guilty never see the free world again.
My heart goes out to the victims families. Wonder if she was forced out of the MP Corps
or honorably discharged.

Still proud to have served. There are bad apples in every outfit.
Hope this one rots in jail.

I have wondered the same, but there isn't any information yet. I am sure that in a few days it will get reported.

Judge Stefany Miley set the date for the jury trial for April 2, 2012, in Clark County District Court.

Murry, a 21-year-old former U.S. Army police officer, is being held without bail in the Clark County Detention Center
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

So much for a speedy trial.

The trial should be speedy, just a long wait in jail for her to get to the speedy part. :evil2:

The defense nearly always waives the right to a speedy trial.

Otherwise the prosecution could put a dozen lawyers on the case and bury the defense in 60 days or whatever the statutory limit is.
