Re: What is taking the Senate Committee so long?
I just sent this to each of the committee members.
Tomorrow you will be voting on SB 354. Please do not let the fact that a bunch of anti-gun students can skip class to crowd the room fool you into thinking that we Texans do not support this bill.
I drive to work armed every day. I have to disarm before I enter the building, because my employer, the University of Texas at Dallas, will not permit me to defend myself.
Public universities have all opted out under present law. They should not be allowed to opt out any longer. If you must allow private schools to opt out to pass the bill, then so be it, but the public schools are very clear. They will not allow us to exercise our right of self defense unless you pass this bill.
Please do not allow public schools to opt out. Pass the bill out of committee as it stands and let the entire Senate vote on its merits.
The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison
