Hope this is in the right category ... anyway,

A little background ... my wife works for a multi-million dollar company in the DFW area on the second floor of the building they occupy, with the "executives" being located on the first floor. The VP of Operations has a friend that is gunsmith on the side. Well, the CEO had a pistol that he wanted some work done on and had talked with the VP and his friend. No problem. Drop it off and they’ll take care of it.

He shows up the next day (with pistol in hand) and walks in the door on the second floor. MAJOR mayhem starts from the first person on … he got about 20 feet and (thankfully) one of the astute individuals on the floor took the gun from him, released the magazine and locked the slide open. Then put it in an envelope. This individual then continued on to the VP he was going to drop it of with.

How STUPID is that … and a CEO on top of it …

(Sorry … just finished reading the post on carrying into the range CCW or not. Open carry is still not legal in Texas.)

I would be disappointed if he wasn't a CEO. I learned many years ago that just because there a CEO doesn't make them smart. It just say's they have friends.

It's a public company traded on NASDAC and he only hold's 13% interest. Does that consitute "under his control"?

Open carry on business property may be okay in this situation (don't know 'cause its public) ...

I would say yes, but I think that's irrelevant. The real question is, what is the company's policy regarding firearms on the premises? (Of course we all know that executives seldom have to follow the policies we are required to follow.)

In Texas? You have to be kidding me. Now, walking in waving a gun with a full mag and one in the chamber? Well, that takes an idiot. Especially if he didn't have good muzzle discipline.

Whether the company is public or private isn't relevant. Company policy is. Public companies don't solicit their shareholders before establishing policies. The executives, in consultation with the board of directors (and perhaps human resources professionals and lawyers as well as others) do.

The CEO has the authority to write himself permission to carry on company premises, unless his corporate charter specifically says otherwise, which would be quite a surprise.

It is still legal to carry your gun in your hand visible when you are going from your house to your car. Once, my next door asked me to take a PPK for refinishing. I found him a Gunsmith that will do it. After the gun came back, I guess, I was just holding that pistol in my hand barrel pointing downward, when I walked from my house front yard to his house. No one called Police, and I guess I did not bother to put that pistol in case or cover it, of course, it was unloaded and the mag was in my other hand. It was like 20 sec walk.

As for the CEO, I guess she should have considered to store in case or wrap it in a towel.

Not if it is not loaded. As was stated before it was placed in the envelope. Unloaded makes things legal that are illegal when loaded.

And this is where the definition of the word "reasonable" starts to get tossed around.

IMO, it is not unreasonable to assume that a man walking into an establishment with a gun in his hand is a potential threat. Most "reasonable" people with firearms that I know would have the arm either holstered, holstered and concealed, or secured and concealed in some type of gun case.

Bad move on his part imo...
