Where to buy Holster Leather?

#1

Post by JacksBack »

I am looking at trying my hand at building some of my own holsters. I have some leather working tools and lots of hands on knowledge about at home projects. I am wondering where I can buy 7-10 oz leather, specifically in the Dallas area. I know I can order it online from Tandy Leather Factory, but I was wondering if there was any place semi local that I could pick up leather to try my hand at a new hobby.

On the same note, is there a local store that sell Kydex or heat form plastic sheets?

Thanks.

There's a thread on that subject you might want to check out.

i'm not sure about the DFW area, but my sister told me that a few Hobby Lobby stores around Houston have started carrying quite a bit of Tandy Leather merchandise

There is a boot maker at 12th and Bishop in Oak Cliff. He has an inventory of many types of leather.

Do a goggle search for Tandy leather in Dallas. There are several. I use the one on East Nothwest highway just East of Loop 12.
Royal plastics in Dallas does sell kydex, however you must buy in 4'x8' sheets which cost several hundred dollars. Try knifekits.com.

I'm about 100min from Houston and my Tandy orders arrive pretty much next day. They are a bit high if you dont get on one of their volume discount memberships, but their customer service level is very high. To me, this helps justify a slightly higher price.

That said, I'm most likely going to join soon, ad the little things like dyes, awl blades, and thread alone will save me some. I'm still on my first double shoulder of leather.

I stopped by the Tandy Leather Store in Dallas this morning. Not to biggest place in the world but well organized and easy to find everything you need and more. Its amazing how much stuff they fit into that tiny little place.
