What I want to know is why the fiance was letting his 25 yo tiny little beauty queen answer the door at 3am while he slept.

From what I read, it was not unusual for friends to come to their door at that time of night if they needed a place to sleep it off. What this shows is we can all get into a routine that can cause us to let down our guard. Being alert is a 24 hour job.
