When Comp Tac says holsters and slides, what is a holster and what is a slide?

When they say it is a "slide" that means it is a holster that fits your gun frame & has a short body w/ an open muzzle. That means the Comp-Tac slide for a 1911 will fit & work for a 3" barrel, 4.25", 5" barrel.

Some of those G-named guns have the same frame but different length barrels. Their #s change but the same principle. Some of you plastic gunners fill in the #s for us.

So the holster is a custom/exact fit while a slide is a more generic one?

Not generic in that it will fit several guns. The only variable is barrel length. Your 3" SA micro compact 1911 in .45acp is the same shape & size as a Colt Govt. Model w/ 5" barrel. All differences are outside the holster.

Holster for Comp-Tac also means there is a crimped muzzel. If you get a Holster for a 3" gun you cannot put my Commander size Kimber in it. The barrel will not go through.
You can carry a shorter barrel gun in a CT holster but not a longer.
