Carrying at the Houston Rodeo & Livestock

OK You'all,

We all saw the news about the punks shooting each other at the BBQ-Rodeo in Houston. Beside the fact of utter disgust for these punks, I immediately asked the question about we law abiding citizens. Does anyone know of any restrictions for carrying at the BBQ or the rodeo/concert? My initial thought is: there is no restriction, but I may be a little naive. Hope this opens up a nice round of comments.

At the carnival, or BBQ, there is no legal restriction. (I am not saying that they are not 30.06, but as a general legality, a CHL is legal to carry there)
However, - if you go inside (through the ticket line into Reliant Stadium for the Concert/Rodeo (even if you only go for the Concert), it is OFF LIMITS as it is a professional sporting event.

You found the first hole in my logic. I didn't consider the sporting event of the rodeo (if I went into the arena for the concert and rodeo). So, outside at the BBQ Cookoff, I'd be okay.

No. Penal code makes no distinction whether the handgun is loaded if it's concealed under a CHL. Last year there were deputies, officers, and troopers working off duty as far as the eye could see. Should be ok.

My understanding is everything BUT the rodeo is OK to carry. Livestock exhibits, carnival (although some of those jerky rides might test your holster retention) BBQ cookoff are all OK.

They need to fix the law so you can carry in a sporting event. The parking lots at some of those places can be rough. They also need to lower the price of the CHL.

I'm trying to follow the reasoning here. The only part which is off limits is the rodeo as a professional sporting event. Although I'm aware that the ticket is for both the rodeo and the concert, the venue wouldn't be off limits at the time the concert is occurring simply because you hold a ticket to both the rodeo and the concert.

At the concert, it's ok, but you'd better leave before the rodeo starts.

I'd bet (just my guess) if you were "observed" during the concert by a PO, you'd be taking the ride in bracelets regardless.

What crime would he arrest you for? It's not against the law to carry at a concert.

The rodeo and the concert are combined into one event. Making the concert part of the rodeo (the professional sporting event). Perhaps someone will try to only carry during the concert portion of the event, get arrested and we can see what happens in the courts.

True, but as others have said below, the concert and rodeo are tied on one ticket.
But even if you 'could' carry during the concert, if a LEO saw your weapon, could you PROVE you were not there for the Rodeo? And would it be worth the ride?

That's not how it works--they would have to prove you were there during the rodeo.

You wouldn't be taking a ride, because peace officers can only arrest for misdemeanors committed in their presence (with few exceptions). It is extremely unlikely that a prosecutor would press any such charge because the fact that you were only witnessed carrying during the concert introduces a huge element of reasonable doubt.

I think the evidence in itself is the ticket stub.
It states Rodeo and Concert, so the ticket holder (or person who lost their ticket stub but is inside the ticket scanners) is expected to be there for the concert

I wouldn't want to be the test case, would you?
