ME: Man shot by friend with unloaded shotgun

#1

Post by seamusTX »

In West Bath, Maine (between nowhere and the deep blue sea), earlier this month a 19-year-old man shot and killed a friend with an unloaded shotgun. He is now charged with manslaughter.

There is an epidemic of unloaded guns "going off." If someone can figure this out, it may solve the problem of high ammunition prices.

If they would just keep them loaded, those unloaded gun accidents wouldn't occur. If they want to, they could put post-it notes on them with red marker saying "LOADED" in case they forget. Still, they need remove those "self-actuating" triggers.

I guess the shotgun didn't have a warning label. They could have something below the sights (not that most shotguns have sights) that says, "You are going to destroy this." Or maybe like in Microsoft Windows you get dialog boxes that say, "Are you sure you want to do this?"

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

He said he pulled the trigger to "scare" his friend. But he forgot to check if the gun was loaded. He apparently liked guns so he says.

At least it didn't accidentally go off.

You just want to scream.

You can eat too many lobsters - or maybe he got a bad one? You just never know.

I wonder if alcohol or drugs were part of this scene. Kids used to grow up learning the rules of gun handling until it was pretty ingrained. Sad.

I think "unloaded" guns should be made to shoot backwards.

Here's a more detailed account: http://waldo.villagesoup.com/news/story ... ase/383050" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's no suggestion that the alleged shooter was intoxicated.

For some people, stupidity comes naturally. Some have to work at it.
