What I'm hearing is there's no reason for CHL license fee discounts for poor people, old people, or anyone else. If it's important enough, they can save up the money required. If it's not important to them, they don't deserve a discount?

Guess it all depends upon how you define "poor". But you are wrong about the "anyone else" part. My state fee was half price (vet). I could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing that once you reach a certain age (65?) you are half price.

If you are a vet, you get a discount. Or perhaps UT or FL might work.

Just general house work. Pulling weeds. Digging up flower beds.. (I hate digging flower beds and pulling weeds) Clipping some trees. Cleaning my pool. Maybe mowing the yard to take off the top coat. Cleaning out my garage. I have many things I could get done that I've been procrastinating on.

Now, let me state that I'm happy to do these myself in time so this offer isn't an offer for work for everyone. I not actively looking for help. I was just trying to help the guy out. I live in Trophy Club Tx. Close to Ft. Worth.

We'll see how serious he is. Sometimes it's like those guys you see on the side of the road with need work signs. You pull up and tell them to hop in and all of a sudden they have another offer.

I'm not trying to be a smart aleck here, but if the difference between an AZ and TX license is stopping you from getting TX license, then I suggest you focus on increasing your income. When I was a younger guy I was in the Navy and made such a small amount that I couldn't "afford" a pistol. Back then there was no shall issue so a permit was out of the question. When I got promoted I bought a my first handgun (a revolver). It was $266, There are a lot of people who work hard and live on a lot less than those of us that can post on a computer internet board.

Did you ever possibly think that I am using public access internet on a public access computer?............ increasing income would be awesome if I could say MOVE to another area, but wait, that takes money too. Ok I'll start out more bluntly. If legally carrying is important to you, then you have $5000 to apply to the situation, since you make that much over the poverty line. If you applied as much time to trying to earn extra money as you did to whining on the internet about how much the Texas CHL costs, you'd have one in no time. Unless you are ill, disabled, or have some other situation why you can't work... I actually have a AZ CWP. It's a bit cheaper than Texas and you can get the training by taking the NRA Basic Pistol course. You don't have to take in AZ either, but we're talking about about maybe $100 difference. This elitist suggests getting off your rear and working for what's important to you.

since it seems that I am "young, and lazy" I have just walked in the door from my full time job, stopping long enough to go to my 2nd job. I have not "left the building" and I am not "whining" about anything. I simply asked a question and got reamed for asking it. As far as range time, dont have to pay for it, my grandfather has a lease that I can shoot on, and ammo that I can shoot, thats a moot point. As far as not meeting TX requirements, doubtful, no arrests, no child support payments(my wife and my children live with me) there is nothing but the dollar amount keeping me from carrying. Thanks for theses "job offers" but as stated above, I already have 2 and possibly a 3rd if I choose to take it. oh, and I never said that I WAS using public internet, just that I could be.........Thank you all for your time. ZeeMan, I understand how the $250 - $300 for the class can be a lot when you are taking care of day to day and family expensives. It was a contributing factor for us for a long while.... I feel like there were a lot of assumptions flying around here and typically that is not how this community operates.

There is a great amount of invaluable information here, and typically a wonderfully supportive family. However, as with any family, sometimes there is conflict. I hope you will give us another chance. Know that I am positive the job offers were honest, sincere attempts to help out, even though many suggestions were made without all the facts.

I think everyone needs to step back and take a couple of deep breaths. Think about the section of class on de-escalation. Some good points have been made, and some toes have been stepped on.
