GF and I were out at Colorado Bend state park this past weekend kayak fishing when game wardens decided to check us for license. Of course I had my wallet in my shorts back pocket under my chest waders but they said they would take my word for it when I told them I had a lifetime hunting/fishing license. As they were starting to leave I asked if they were going to check GF who was about 100 yards away. They said they were so I told them I had her license in my backpack inside the kayak. At this time I mentioned I had a chl and my handgun was in the same backpack. They didn't seem to care and just wanted to see GFs fishing license. Other than losing a $6 lure when none of us noticed that one of the lines I was trolling had gone under their boat is was a pleasant experience.

handlebar-mounted bag. The game warden asked for the GG's ID, then
wanted to remove the gun.

When the game warden removed the XD, he had his finger on the trigger,
the grip safety was depressed, and he ended up shooting 1 round negligently.

No people were wounded, but the front tire on the ATV was history. :-)

One problem, it might be not a choice, LEO are supposed to know how to handle firearms and many may demand that you not touch your firearm and proceed to disarm you.

I did best last week on LMB using a 2" Storm Baby Bass with chartreuse tail swim bait, but haven't gotten into the whites yet.

I run into the GWs from Inks lake a lot at various stores and convenience stores here, as I'm only a few miles from there, used my CHL as second ID at that State Park when I got my old people's I mean Bluebonnet pass for the State Parks..
GWs up around here don't really notice if people are armed, that was the first LEO I encountered, second was Marble Falls police who just stared all over at me for 15 minutes in a gun store there trying to see my beltline, which he couldn't.

I pedal/paddle a yellow Hobie Outback with a bazillion rodholders and yellow school bus reflective tape all over it for night fishing. Hollar (PM) if you plan to head to Buchanan or Marble Falls or up this way, I'll see if I can go.

Fishing was slow, only managed 4 whites and 2 crappie on Friday, caught 10 whites on Sat. Fished from noon to 6:30 Fri and 9-6:30 Sat with most fish caught last 2 hours both days. Got plenty of exercise though, by the time my ff/gps battery died at 4 Sat I had covered 12.3 miles trolling. Probably going to bank fish the steps at Granger this Friday. Depending on the weather I may head back to Colorado Bend March 4th and 5th.

No, Granger is COE land and carry is prohibited. At least that is my understanding, maybe someone can verify.

Can't carry at Granger, nor Georgetown, nor Belton, nor Stillhouse, nor Lake Waco nor Whitney, nor Aquilla, nor Granger (crappie) nor .... or any of those other 31 or so USACOE lakes stocked by the TEXAS Parks and Wildlife with your license fees and maintained by your tax dollars because the Feds say we can't protect ourselves from wild boar, bobcats, snakes and rabid skunks and meth labs people out there. Their park rangers have pepper spray to deal with those problems so we should "feel safe" even though you'll rarely see a park ranger.

PORTIONS of the San Gabriel river are under the Brazos River Authority and NOT on USACOE Property though, and you can carry on those portions if you are sure not to cross the invisible line in the water into a USACOE property, but the USACOE doesn't know exactly where those lines are and can't provide GPS coords for their boundaries.

So, if boating canoeing kayaking down the San Gabe, you need to guess, estimate where the USACOE property starts by their approximated maps (they say there usually are no signs) and where the boundaries stops and have someone in a car meet you at the upper and lower end of each of those lakes to carry your gun around the lake and return it to you on the other end after your boat/kayak/canoe gets to the other end... at each lake. But it's ok to carry on the non-USACE sections controlled by the Brazos River Authority.

but property boundaries are up to you to figure out IANAC (I AM NOT A CARTOGRAPHER [map maker]) And the USACE doesn't know where their boundary markers are.

For the last 2 years in February, I've fished all day, put the kayak up about 5 or 6p.m, saw fish hitting the surface while cartopping/trailering, and decided to bank fish a minute rather than re-launch and caught whites off the bank in the evening, when daytime was a washout ... I'm sleeping in and gonna just start launching in the evening this Feb.

I have only been disarmed once, in VA, well over 10+ years. When the officer asked to hold the weapon, I politely asked if he could take the holster with it. I unbelted my belt loop and he took the whole thing. I would have to agree though, handing someone a loaded gun should be avoided at all cost.

The law allows a peace officer to disarm a CHL if the officer "reasonably believes it is necessary" for his or her protection. Letting the person draw and manipulate the handgun seems like prima facie evidence the peace officer does not reasonably believe the CHL is a threat, and therefore there's no reason to disarm the CHL.

Pretty much every excuse for disarming "it's SOP" or "it's policy" ect, is evidence the officer don't believe the CHL is a threat.

In the above story that I related, the ATV owner DID NOT
HAND his XD to the game warden.

The game warden reached into the handlebar bag and removed
the XD himself, with no handling on the part of the XD's owner.

ND then resulted.
