"Atlas Shrugged" movie opens April 15
I hope the movie can convey the complete message of Ms. Rands book.
I have given this epic novel to about 50 friends and co-workers over the years
and would hate to see the movie miss the mark.
Who is John Gault?

I have a hard time believing that Hollyweird can do justice to the meaning of the book. You may be better of seeing the movie, then reading the book.WildBill wrote:Should I read the book first?

Then, because I have no expectations, I would probably be less disappointed in the movie.MasterOfNone wrote:I have a hard time believing that Hollyweird can do justice to the meaning of the book. I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals.
Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them.
One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

Movie is just part 1. I heard they will make 2 more parts to get the whole book in.

That's my understanding as well. I'm really anxious to see how they flesh out the characters for Hank Reardon and Dagny Taggart on the screen.Bullwhip wrote:Movie is just part 1. I heard they will make 2 more parts to get the whole book in.
For anyone considering it, I'd highly recommend reading the book in advance of the movie. Better yet, consider reading "The Fountainhead" first. It presents many of the same concepts in a less complex form.

That is, assuming that Part 1 doesn't tank at the box office.chasfm11 wrote:That's my understanding as well. I hear that. I watched one of those "the making of" for Atlas Shrugged it seemed like a lot of the whole movie was already in the can. Maybe I just wasn't listening carefully. It sure seemed like they were taking great pains to do it right. As you say, the proof will be at the box office.

How appropriate for it to open on April 15.

Having not seen the movie yet (obviously), I can't say for sure, but if the movie doesn't do the book justice, you truly miss out. The book is a long read, but tremendously worth it. IMHO. In fact, it is one of the few books I will re-read.WildBill wrote:Then, because I have no expectations, I would probably be less disappointed in the movie.MasterOfNone wrote:I have a hard time believing that Hollyweird can do justice to the meaning of the book.
