So I was on my way home from work today ~7AM listening to KILT (Houston country station 100.3) and the female host that they have Corey said how she and her husband were up at 3AM and were letting the dog outside for the morning and he began making a huge commotion well she was upstairs when she heard all the commotion downstairs and come to find out after the husband opened the front door there was a guy standing in the shadows (after having jumped over their 6-7 foot high fence) apparently trying to break in. Husband took a golf club to the guy and she called 911 and the police actually found the guy a few blocks away bloody from the gold club beating and she was talking about how it freaked her out what if the guy breaking in had a weapon and how she was actually thinking of going to the gun range sometime soon. They also had people calling in, and I almost called in and said how the guy would have met a .45 and not a gold club but didn't.

So, when did they stop the program of handing pistols to new folks at the border?

He must have been a hacker,,always triple bogeys,,if that is the best he could do

But really,,glad he was ahead,,I tell everyone to get a chl,,,the cops are only 30 minutes away.

side note,,my neighbor,,nice neighborhood,,west Galveston (easy Seamus ),we had a drughead (came from houston ) roaming around,,he called cops,,he said they did not care much until he said he was getting his gun,,dispatcher said no and he hung up,,,cops seem to roll a bit faster if that is mentioned,,,he had a 60 year old 22,,but could not find the bullets,,before they arrived and drew down on him,,(Galveston,,ok),,anyway they caught the wacked out guy,,,this was about two weeks ago,,,

The golf club was a good response to the threat at the time,,,but what about next,,,we do not need to over react and give chl'ers a bad name

They know you won't back over 90 bucks. After all, you left your other state for a reason right?

A lot of states slap this kind of a tax on new residents. Some are several hundred dollars.

We traded in the wife's Escalade in October and got hit with a couple grand in sales taxes. We already paid tax on the damn thing in Virigina. We didn't buy it here. But because we were trading it in, we got whacked anyways.
Don't get me wrong, I love my new home. Few places I'd choose to live besides here.
But I wish Texas was as free as everyone pretends it is.

We traded in the wife's Escalade in October and got hit with a couple grand in sales taxes. We already paid tax on the darn thing in Virigina. We didn't buy it here. But because we were trading it in, we got whacked anyways.
Don't get me wrong, I love my new home. Few places I'd choose to live besides here.
But I wish Texas was as free as everyone pretends it is.

Not trying to be rude, but I honestly have no idea what you guys are talking about. Nobody taxed me for anything when I moved here, as far as I can recall (which isn't far ). After we got here, we sold a used pickup truck to somebody which we had purchased in California. Did all the paperwork right, and we never got taxed anything on the sale.

sounds to me that you were duped by the salesman, when a car is traded in the value of that car is deducted from the purchase price of the new vehicle and you only pay sales tax on the net difference.... if you still have the paperwork I would go back to the dealership and demand a refund

sounds to me that you were duped by the salesman, when a car is traded in the value of that car is deducted from the purchase price of the new vehicle and you only pay sales tax on the net difference.... if you still have the paperwork I would go back to the dealership and demand a refund

Thats actually what we paid tax on, but it was still a chunk.

Getting the paperwork in order to register my boat. New Resident tax on both the boat and motor, seperately. $15 each.


And yes, we also paid the $90 new resident tax on each of our (2) vehicles.
