waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is why
I applied right after christmas because I had to track down a notarized copy of a court record for some silly possession of Marijuana charge I got way back in 2005 when I was just out of highschool. Everything else is showing up green on my online part right now but here is my issue. I have been trying to track this document down for over a month, I finished the class in november. first off, I had my record expunged as it is the only offense I have ever been charged with, other than a DUI which I wasn't arrested for since I was 20 and it was a class C misdemeanor...and I really had not been drinking, everyone else in my car had been..hence why I was driving, but that is beyond the point. The document I managed to track down only said that I had been placed on deferred and that even that was appealed, because my record was expunged. Here is the thing, It took so long to find the file because my name is spelled wrong in their database, I ran three background checks on myself and never found anything at all.
What do you guys think?
Also I plan on carrying a g27 if I get approved, and I love the mtac holster that I have for it, does anyone ever have concerns about carrying a loaded glock around in these holsters? It didn't really bother me when I went hunting and wore it under my jacket (there are a lot of hogs, and let me tell you the hollowpoints in my gun did not do the trick). I have been considering changing to a kimber ultra carry, but have heard good and bad things about 3" inch 1911s

Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
I have carried a loaded, chambered Glock 26 or 27 for a year or so in Kholster, Comfort Carry, and Tuck This 2, and an Ace Case and some others.
Some people use no holster just a clip ... I wouldn't without the trigger insert or trigger safety.
As long as the trigger is covered and you keep your finger outta the trigger guard, I wouldn't worry.
I also was in one of those "I went to the jail with everyone else in the car, incidents" about 40 years ago, (just a seed was a felony then, and the 15 year old rich kid My girlfriends acquaintance who she and I hitched a ride home with from a wedding and apparently he used drugs, unknown to me ... it was her sister's wedding, I didn't know the guy) but they released us all after booking us and dropped charges, mine took a bit longer due to that, but no record was found, s all charges were dropped.
I saw that guy once after that, the rich kid's dad made him cut off his long hair and work at Baskin Robbins, which is where I saw him he no longer got $300 a week allowance and only got to use his car for work and school. (His dad was a multi-multi-multi millionaire)
I can't answer the rest, but someone here will be along that can.

that is good to know, the mtac appears a lot like the kholster, just a bit nicer looking I think. I might eventually try for a nice 1911 in a shoulder holster, just for piece of mind, but I do like that I know the g27 is always going to fire when i need it to.
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
The metal clips on the kholster scratched my expensive $80.00 belt, but I replaced them with clips from Comp-Tac, not real hard to do with a screwdriver for the screws and hole maker for the leather if you want holes in places besides what it comes with.
Actually I wear the cheap Tuck This 2 by Desantis a lot, as the clip goes UNDER the belt, so even other CHLs and Police don't get "belt clip clues" that I"m armed.... and it has a spare mag carrier right there on it which helps "round out" my belt instead of creating an air gap near the slide.
I only have 1 hand and poor vision, so on my Glocks I use Advantage Tactical sights, which allow racking slide with 1 hand (good for 2-handers too, in case other hand is busy or injured), and a triangular fast easy site acquisition.
What I do with the Desantis Tuck This 2 is, say for my Glock 26, I'll carry a spare Glock 17 magazine with a Pearce PG39 grip extension for 20 rounds of 9mm in one spare . (PG39 adds 3 in 9mm in less space than Glock's +2 extension) ... it sits tall in the mag carrier which is perfect with the 'holster cant angle' I set so it's just grabbable above my pants line. ... the shorter mags would be below belt, so that works great.... the same could be done with the longer .40 round mags and PG-39 adds 2 more in .40, but is smaller than the original Glock extensions..
Anyway, this will also bump your thread to the top of "new posts"
On mine, they ALSO wanted me to get records from some State I've never been in (common name) then That County in that State wanted $1,000 for copies of records, and then the Texas DPS said "never mind" (I guess they figured out I was too young at that time an offense by someone with "my name" occurred in that other State or something) and sent my CHL
so maybe someone can help on the record expunged ... placed on deferred and that even that was appealed, because my record was expunged ... my name is spelled wrong in their database, I ran three background checks on myself and never found anything at all. issue when they see it.
If Charles Cotton sees this, he may want you to call his office so he can advise you better after getting some more details from you ... but I don't have an answer nor suggestion.

Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
did they contact you and ask for a notarized copy of the court record, or did you just send it in with your application? reason i ask is because i have a similar arrest (possession of marijuana) but i was a juvenile when it happened, received deferred adjudication, and after 6 months probation the incident should have been expunged from my record. i did include the arrest on my CHL application and i'm wondering if they're going to contact me for some sort of documentation since it shouldn't come up in the background check. the arrest was 11 years ago, not sure if that makes any difference.jmoney wrote:I applied right after christmas because I had to track down a notarized copy of a court record for some silly possession of Marijuana charge I got way back in 2005 when I was just out of highschool.

the instructor I had said to report every arrest no matter what state, or how long ago, and attach certified copies of the courts ruling, thats why I went ahead and tracked it down and sent it in with the application. I wanted to make sure that I was completely honest and gave any and all documentation I could in order to make the application process go faster.

Your instructor told you the right stuff. If DPS needs anything else they'll contact you. Never leave out any arrests/convictions even juvenile except for class C misdemenors like traffic, noise, etc..

Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
yeah my instructor told us to list any and all arrests but didn't tell us to include notarized copies of court rulings or anything like that. i guess this will probably delay my application, hopefully i'll get a call or a letter soon explaining what they need me to send in.
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
I called them before i sent in the application to ask about the DUI charge, but since it was a class C and I was not arrested they said there was no reason to mention it

Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
any updates? have you heard anything from the DPS or are you still in the "background check under review" stage?
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
still waiting, everything is green so far, I am not so worried about it now, I feel like if it would have been an issue they would have contacted me or rejected my application by now. next week will hit the 30 day mark from them claiming they received my application.
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
30 days have passed, still no word, only thing waiting is the background check right now

It's been over 40 days for me and it's still showing "under review". Until the last month or so the norm has still been around 45 days, it just seems that the January thread and a few December posters got theirs in unusually fast time, heck guys not too long ago were waiting 6 months.jmoney wrote:30 days have passed, still no word, only thing waiting is the background check right now
If you want give them a call on Monday to see if they have any questions.
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
i thought they had to notify you within 60 days? thats why I don't get the 4 month thing.
Re: waiting, still worried about application stuff..here is
well im a couple days shy of the 60 day mark, but I think its finally time to give them a call and see what the holdup is
