Best less than lethal options for self defense.

Hi there. I wasn't sure where I would post this subject so I posted here in off topic. A good female friend of mine recently moved to Los Angeles to work at ULCA and as we all know la can sometimes be a less than civil place so I wanted her to have some options to protect her self as she walks to and from work and home and sometimes even late at night. Shes not really a gun person besides I believe you can't carry in LA so I was thinking of getting her that kimber guardian pepper blaster. It cost more than regular pepper spray and wanted to know if it was worth the money. Any other recommendation would be great as well. Thanks in advance for the info!

Running away is the best less than lethal option. Even if you spray them, you still have to run away before they grapple.

I mean some States made tasers/ stun guns iillegal, some made sprays illegal ...

A big 6-D cell flashlight is legal almost everywhere that a "club" isn't
two of those with a loop and carobiner might be legal, except when attached to each other to use as nunchucks, like a person might do in an emergency (assuming they knew how to use them) ...

It's California, I dunno ... did they make Flashlights illegal yet? reduced capacity flashlights, 5 cell instead of 6?

I know that Police officers are not lawyers, but she might call them and ask what's legal ... they are the ones who'd arrest her if I said carry this or that, and it wasn't legal there.


I've thought someone should make a double shot Pepper spray PLUS a taser all in one unit ... why not use a combination, instead of risking either/or? but I dunno

Yes, it's worth the money.

The effective range of 13 feet far outclasses the sprays, and the large droplet pattern greatly reduces the chances of self contamination during windy conditions unless you fire it upwind during a hurricane. The 90 MPH delivery speed also makes it almost impossible to dodge if it is aimed properly at the moment of discharge.

The fact that it uses a pyrotechnic charge also makes it immune to the pressure loss issues that plague the sprays, and you don't have to shake up the contents to keep the product properly mixed.

After purchasing the test version and seeing it perform myself, I have no use for the spray versions. For the people I like, that is.

For others, the spray will do just fine.

Thanks for the info. I think it's best to stay away from impact weapons or large flashlights. She is very petite and would be at a major disadvantage if the assailant was able to get in close. I was leaning towards the tazer but she didn't seem to fond of the idea of shocking someone( a little to passive in my opinion lol). Ill have her look into the local laws to see what is considered legal there. The kimber guardian is still looking lime the best option. Thanks again and stay safe!

Self Defense classes for women are readily avaiable anywhere one lives. Never underestimate the effect a good swift kick in the family jewels can have no matter the size of the attacker. An agressive thumb to the eye socket has been proven effective as well.

While this is true, it's a lot like a mouse gun carrier who depends on being able to deliver a bullet to an attacker's eye socket.

The corollary in either case is:

Never underestimate the inspirational effect a near miss can have on your adversary's determination to maim or kill you.

If either of these strategies is plan A, Plans B and C had better be well thought out. They're real likely to be needed.
