Re: Ode to Kel-Tec
Not only are Kel-tec's guns cool, but Mr. Kelgren is a 2nd A rights supporter, too. I wrote the guy a letter asking what he's doing to support 2nd A rights and he actually took the time to write me back. I wrote similar letters to all the other manufacturers and he was the only one who wrote me back.
I want to know if the manufacturer is a 2nd A rights supporter before I buy any guns from that manufacturer. Here's some maddening quotes;
Mr. Ruger, "No honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun," in support of Clinton's gun ban law.
Smith & Wesson also supported Clinton's gun ban.

Re: Ode to Kel-Tec
even though there were a few makers of pocket pistols around before George Kelgren founded his current company (Kel-Tec), I believe it was his introduction of the P-32 and P-11 onto the affordable market that proved to the majors that the public had a true interest in pocket guns. Just my opinion, but I would consider George Kelgren to be the "father" of the current pocket gun. He is also one of the most innovative designers in recent history. Just the fact that Ruger cloned his (uncoyrighted) P3AT to make their LCP, and previously the Skky Industries (now Sccy..due to a little lawsuit concerning a certain long time Vodka maker) cloned KT's P-11 kind of proves a point. KT pistols were never made to be "range guns", rather to be back-ups or CC guns to be "shot little, carried alot". KT was on the very cutting edge of firearms technology in putting centerfire pistol rounds in miniature polymer frames... there's a whole lot of science to be dealt with.
If KT hadn't come along when they did, and gotten many thousands of small, concealable handguns into the public domain, I would seriously doubt that we would have anywhere near the number of sub compact or micro compact handguns to choose from today.
just my opinions

I agree it seems that Kel Tec is way past what anyone else is making. The RFB/KSG and the PMR30 are hits. No other maker has anything that even comes close to these models. I own nothing from the Kel Tec brand. That will be changing though. Good work Kel Tec!
Imagine if we didnt have this company. We would be getting the same rifles and pistols every year. If nothing else it will force the others to compete if any of these models take off.

You're really going to enjoy it.
I'm hoping I can find a PMR-30 at the gun show this weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think their designs are innovative and interesting compared to the rest of the market. Very few firearm manufacturers actually push the envelope as far as design. Most tweak what has been working for the past decade to ten decades. I think their price point is great, but the fit and finish keep me from buying one honestly. At any price point I would like a little nicer finish on a product. Not a bad word to say about their reliability or functionality.

You're a Texan, right? You know one of our marketing mottoes? "If you can't fix it, feature it!" I WANT a cheap crappy BUG under my armpit in a KangarooCarry collecting the dripping sweat every day. I would never do that to a GOOD gun. That's why I sweat on a P3-AT.RECIT wrote:I think their designs are innovative and interesting compared to the rest of the market. Re: Ode to Kel-Tec
I've never owned a KT but my older son had a P11 and I shot it some. I agree it's fit and finish were nothing to be overly proud of however I never heard of the thing failing to fire or feed. And both my son and I could shoot it with more than acceptable accuracy.
The reason my son sold it was because the trigger "bit" his finger everytime he fired. Bit mine too. Not a fun gun to shoot but seemed to meet at least minimum functional requirements at a good price. After a couple of years son replaced the KT with a Sig P250 subcompact for a couple of hundred more $$. Slightly larger, but a trigger smooth as glass and easy to shoot.
At the end of the day one must decide between ones wants and needs and what one is willing to spend to get it. I'd much rather have that KT P11 than nothing, especially if that was all my firearm budget could afford.

drjoker wrote:Kel-Tec has the ultimate of everything;
The ultimate rifle, RFB. Smaller than a folding stock rifle, but bullpup and ambidextrous with forward ejecting shells so your hunting buddy won't get a hot shell chucked at his head. Smaller than a .223 pea shooter but packs the wallop of a .308. Wow!
The ultimate shotgun, KSG. Smaller than a sawed off shotgun, but with a legal length barrel due to bullpup design. It has dual mag tube so you could be shooting doves with bird shot one second but if a BG approaches, you could hit a switch and shoot buckshot out of the other mag the next second. Wow!
The ultimate CCW, PF9 and P3AT. The thinnest and lightest guns in each of their respective calibers. Rohrbaugh is smaller than the PF9 but the Rohrbaugh is not rated for +P ammo, so it is not a real 9mm pistol. For CCW, thinness and lightness are crucial for concealability. 9mm and .380 are what most shooters think are the minimum calibers for self-defense. In other words, these are the most concealable handguns in serious self-defense calibers available on the market. I hate shooting the P3AT because of the extreme recoil due to the extreme light weight, but guess what? I carry that most because it is the most concealable. Unless you're a firearms enthusiast, most ordinary folks who have a CHL just want the minimum gun that is most concealable for self-defense. Kel-tec's handguns fill that role.
My favorite gun manufacturer was Glock, but it's now Kel-tec. Glock still makes great stuff, but no other manufacturer can claim to have the ultimate firearm in every category!
Oh, my Christmas list is growing and there's still 11 more months 'till Christmas!
Another opinion on the KSG:

I want the best tool available my budget can afford in any situation. Whether it be self defense, handyman around the house, or repairing a car.

Re: Ode to Kel-Tec
I think not my friend...KT needs to ditch the Sub2K platform and offer the 3 major pistol calibers and 2-3 major combat rifle calibers all on the RFB platform and be done.
