Firing Pin Question

I just got new Millenium, and was looking at the spent shells being thrown out and the primers looked funny to me. When the firing pin strikes the primer it looked like it was hitting it at an angle. Is this normal or does something need to be looked at. I looked at the primers for my 9mm ad it has a small pin mark straight on. I will post some pics when i get batts charged up for camera. thanks in advance

If the pic was a tad clearer it would help, but it looks to me as if the firing pin is staying forward while the case is starting to be ejected. Rather than striking at an angle, the pin is dragging out of the strike mark making that slightly oval appearance.

It's possible that your firing pin spring is on the weak side, but it might also be the way it was designed. I know that when my .45s start doing that it's time to replace the firing pin spring.

That's normal for the Taurus Millenium Pro series. It's all over the Taurus forums. I freaked out when I first noticed it on mine. I looked at my SA XD 45. It does it too but very slightly. My SA XD9 as well.

I don't know much about Taurus but Sigs have a similar situation. I believe the Sigs are designed to allow the firing pin to protrude out longer during the cycle so it protects the firing pin chamber from powder residue. This results in a slight case of firing pin drag on the primer but not near the amount I see in your pictures. Maybe Taurus copied the Sig design but went a little too far.

It's blurry, but it looks like my Glocks Spent brass.

I read somewhere it was because it is not a "Firing Pin" but a "Striker"

That's exactly my diagnosis, too.

I don't know enough about the Taurus inner workings to know if this is normal, or indicative of a problem.

Thanks alot guys, and yes the picture is very blurry, I am sorry, i couldnt get the camera to focus any better at that close. I dont think its a weak spring due to brand new gun, and it does sound better to me if its all over the taurus forums. That means theres nothing wrong. I appreciate it.
