Where to buy Ak-47 around Houston area?
Where to buy Ak-47 around Houston area?
I'm getting close to buying an AK-47 online from classicarms.us and I've read about some good experiences with them on this site and a few others. I'm reluctant though to buy a gun sight unseen although they do have a 15 day inspection period (and a 20% restocking fee!). Are there any gun shops around the Houston area that carry AK-47's?

There are a few in the Houston area, but be prepared to pay a premium for a nothing fancy kinda rifle. Fountain Firearms, Collectors Firearms, SOG Armory and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. I would and have ordered an AK online. I would buy almost any AK online sight unseen except a Romanian WASR. Those are known to have a few issues that need to be inspected before purchasing. Like canted front sight and wobbly mag well. Other than those two issues and fit and finish not being the best I have no problem buying one at a local shop. be prepared to spend close to $450-550 for a Romanian WASR in hand at a local shop and maybe $350-450 online. I would look for a Yugo or a Polish rifle spend a little more money and get something you don't have to worry about being unreliable or defective.
I have an AK from Lancaster Arms. I ordered about two years ago waited two months and got it in hand. Its been 100% reliable and cost about as much as a converted Saiga/Arsenal. Aimsurplus and J&G sales have quite a few to choose from and they ship next day usually. I would go to Collectors Firearms and handle a few to make sure you want one and see if you want a fixed stock, under folder, or side folder. My preference is a Yugo under folder over a Polish side folder b/c the under fold stock is more comfortable to shoot compared to the wire side folding stock.

Yeah Elite in Texas City seems like a good place. A friend bought a Bushmaster AR there a while back. They won't tell you much on the phone. A gun shop in Alvin, I think it's RG Guns had some a few weeks back when I was in there but I don't remember much about the price or selection, I was lookin for somethin else.

How much do you want to spend? There are some good prices on converted Saiga's out there or you can order from Will at Red Jacket Firearms. I grew up near his old shop. I have several made from him and they are GREAT!

IMO RG Guns in Alvin is overpriced. I have stopped in there a few times and everything I saw was more than other local shops. I can swing by and get a price and brand if you want though.danpaw wrote:Yeah Elite in Texas City seems like a good place. A friend bought a Bushmaster AR there a while back. If they won't give you a price over the phone it sounds like they don't want any business...none of mine anyway. I can see not giving car repair estimates, landscaping job estimates, or plumbing estimates over the phone. But on a product in inventory? Sounds like they are total morons in a business sense.danpaw wrote:Yeah Elite in Texas City seems like a good place. A friend bought a Bushmaster AR there a while back. Elite has always given me prices over the phone. They are not morons in MHO.

Tomball Pawn has them for around $450.
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.
Re: Where to buy Ak-47 around Houston area?
I was trying to price ARs for my neighbor about a month ago and the girl at Elite told me they do not give prices over the phone. I had the same reaction, they don't need any business I would send them. I just crossed them off the list. We are in Alvin and I wasn't driving to T.C. just to get a price that they could give me over the phone. Must have been morons that day.
