Gunman reported on UTEP campus

Colleges are places to learn, not die at the hands of attention-starved mass-murderers.

This could happen to any campus and just because it has never happened at UTEP, doesn't mean it never will

Be sure to take the poll too

Whoever spotted the guy is pretty talented to be able to tell what caliber the gun is from a distance. :skep:

"Official report or not, a student reported that a man in a red car with Chihuahua license plates appeared to be handling a black handgun and a 9 mm ammunition clip at the inner campus parking lot IC-2, which is next to the Liberal Arts Building."

Nothing illegal about handling a gun inside his car in the parking lot, other than it was seen. Whoever saw him, all they could see was that it was a black handgun, but they could see that it was a 9 mm magazine? Unlikely :confused5

"Even the rumor of a loaded gun on campus and in the possession of someone who intends to use it should be taken seriously. "

Just because he had a "loaded" handgun on campus doesn't mean it is in possession of someone who intends to use it. :banghead:

I'm betting it was one of those 9mm "AK-47" automatic pistol "clips"
"rlol"
(Actually surprised the journalist didn't say that)

Yeah, only violation that occurred was that it was in plain view.

I keep large garbage bags in my car to drape over me when I need to. (Also handy to put fish I catch into, make a quick pancho if raining, store muddy shoes, etc etc ... and once every 5 years, to clean the car out.)

I go to UTEP and sure enough I didn't hear anything until a few days later. but ours is a different type of situation. The university sits right across the border from Juarez and we have had stray bullets from shootouts across the border hit buildings on campus and city hall. Since the car has Mexican plates there is a possibility that the drug cartels where targeting someone at utep who may have been connected to them.We have many international students who live in juarez and a few utep students have been killed visiting relatives over there. As of yet the violence has not spilled over to US soil but there is no telling how long that will last. Gotta stay sharp out there! Ironically we where just rated the safest US city in a recent poll. Go figure!

Bullets, Shmullets. I went to UTEP for my freshman year of college back in the mid 1970s, and I almost got blown up by dynamite while walking to my car. Seriously. True story for realz.

They were clearing and leveling land on the south side of the campus that lay between the existing buildings and the student parking lots.... at least I remember it as being on the south side.... for some new buildings or a new parking structure or something. Anyway, I'm walking along through the construction site on my way to where my car is parked, wondering what in the heck that loud whistle was, when I noticed all these red and blue wires are running along the ground and into holes, and I look up and I'm wondering why three or four hard-hatted construction workers are frantically waving their arms at me.... So I shrug and keep walking toward the parking lot (I had just left my calculus class and my mind must have been numb). Suddenly the ground erupts with a loud bang a little ways behind me and I get showered with dirt clods. That woke me up.

You can have your paltry little bullets. You haven't really lived until you've almost been blowed up.

They probably should have had a No Dynamite sign; yeah, that's the ticket.

That story is hard to top, but I'll toss in an entry just for fun.

Shortly after I graduated from the FBI Academy, there was apparently a bit of an incident on the grounds. The Academy is located on the property of the Quantico marine base, and the sound of machine gun fire, artillery, and aerial bombing was part of the background music for class.

According to the way it was told to me, one of the Marine gunners in training made a small mathematical error in his ballistic calculations, and ordered his artillery piece oriented 180 degrees away from where it should have been. When the high explosive shell was fired, instead of dropping on the gunnery range, it dropped onto a field on the FBI Academy grounds. Said field was fortunately vacant at the time.

Nobody got hurt, but it sure got everyone's attention.

I was a redleg once upon a time. Artillery uses mils and they call that "three two hundred out",same as 180 degrees.

While I was in some redlegs at fort brag almost killed the post commander's wife. Glad I wasn't there.

Well utep was former called the college of the mines. It was first set up to educate miners on metallurgy and better mining techniques. I'm sure dynamite was pretty abundant. If anyone tried to shoot up the campus they ran the danger of being blown to bits. Lol ;-).
