Gun Show This Weekend
I'm looking for a concealed carry holster for my Taurus and wondering if it's worth the time and 10 or 11 bucks it will cost to go to the Brown Convention Center and get in.

Re: Gun Show This Weekend
Do you have any idea what kind of holster you want?
If you want a good IWB, Crossbreed or CompTac is the way to go, but you won't find them (normally) at the gun shows, only on-line.
the holsters I have seen at the gun shows are either the decorative OWB's (like those seen in the wild west movies) or the cheap nylon holsters, which IMHO are not worth anything if you are using them for true concealment.
Save the $10 or whatever the GRB costs are and put that towards a good Crossbreed or Comptac (personally I like Crossbreed over Comptac).
Also my first weapon was a Taurus PT111, with a Crossbreed minituck - I do not think they make the minituck anymore for the PT111, but they do still make the Supertuck.

Re: Gun Show This Weekend & Holster considerations
Sounds like a plan.
I've been thinking about either a Fobus paddle style or modifying a backpack so that it can be easily drawn.
I usually carry a backpack slung over one shoulder. That would put the gun in about the same position as if I were wearing a shoulder holster.

Re: Gun Show This Weekend
I hope they have a better selection than the SAXET show. I was surprised at how few holster options there were. There were several "nylon" but hardly any leather at all - and they were OWB. CompVest and SRVA had a few leather at their table for IWB. I was expecting more pocket carry leather options and there were hardly any at all.
The GRB group is different with different vendors. It has been years since I have been, but it was always fun to walk around.
Just my 2cents and they are probably only worth 1/2 that

Wife's out of town and I wasn't able to secure a baby sitter. No gun show for me!
Re: Gun Show This Weekend
Why can't you bring the baby with you? Lots people do that at the show.jamisjockey wrote:Wife's out of town and I wasn't able to secure a baby sitter. No gun show for me!
Please help the wounded store owner who fought off 3 robbers. He doesn't have medical insurance.

My kiddos are aged 5 and 7 and are a giant pain in the rump at places like that. They'd be bored real quickly.....

Yep, way too many do, that's why I don't go anymore..they're typically crowded enough; add strollers and such and it's a mess.Stupid wrote:Why can't you bring the baby with you? Re: Gun Show This Weekend
Our very good friend Robert Locke from San Antonio makes some of the nicest pocket holsters around: mecopocketholsters.com. I'm not sure what his waiting list is now, but he usually turns around orders in a few weeks. He doesn't have all the pics on his site, but he is also working in exotics now. He makes pocket holsters for most of popular pocket guns.Divided Attention wrote:I hope they have a better selection than the SAXET show. I was surprised at how few holster options there were. Re: Gun Show This Weekend
One idea is to go online to Tucker Gunleather and they should have what you need. As well, on this website their are listings of all holster websites so that way you don't even need to leave the house, save money on gas and babysitters.

Re: Gun Show This Weekend
My problem with this attitude is that this is why kids grow up as anti-gunners. The way to win any long term fight is to win the children. Take your children shooting, and take them shopping for guns - even to gun shows. They will be much more likely to grow up wanting to shoot, or at least recognizing the right of people to own guns.CainA wrote:Nothing against kids, but....It's a gun show.
I have always taken my kids shooting with me. And I take them with me to the gun stores and gun shows. My kids started going to the range before they could ride bicycles for the most part. Out of seven kids, 4 are into shooting as a hobby, one likes shooting but is not really into it (kind of can take it or leave it), and the other two are not into shooting but just don't care either way about guns - definitely not anti-gunners.
The next generation has to be hooked early for any activity, shooting, golf, baseball, motorcycles, etc. I have seen stores that don't like kids in them, especially ones like mine who are curious and ask a lot of questions. And when I see a store that doesn't like kids, I have to wonder if they really have the long term interests of the sport in their minds, or even their long term profits. My kids have picked up many habits from me, including the ranges we go to, the stores we shop at, and the brands I buy. Many of those decisions are based on the attitudes displayed when i went in with my kids.

Thank you for the mention. We now have Comp-tac at the Cypress FireArms table. I also noticed a dealer with Blackhawk holsters. I was surprised at the selection available this show.Divided Attention wrote:I hope they have a better selection than the SAXET show. I was surprised at how few holster options there were. I so agree with you! I have been to quite a few shows on both sides of the table. I enjoy seeing the children there. The vast majority are very well behaved and ask great questions. I appreciate the family atmosphere that is present at gun shows. Keep the children coming at all ages. Let them grow up in a right to carry life style.srothstein wrote:My problem with this attitude is that this is why kids grow up as anti-gunners. I dunno. Maybe I'll take them this morning, we'll see. I'm sure my boy would love a stun gun....
Re: Gun Show This Weekend
Wife and I went yesterday. Sure seems like it was a smaller show than what George used to be. And the parking was a rediculous pain.
