4 Year Old Shoots Mom with Shotgun

#1

Post by Excaliber »

In Gig Harbor, WA, a 4 year old loaded the shotgun shell his mom's boyfriend had given him to play with into a shotgun and fired it, striking his mother. She is expected to survive.

Details here.

This has got to be the fishiest story ever! Come on, people! Let's think about this!

A 4 year old? Loads a cartridge into a 12 guage semi-auto shotgun? Mom is in the same room and doesn't notice? Then he manages to lift up the gun and pull the trigger? And, conveniently, boyfriend is not there but arrives shortly thereafter??

This story should have started out with "once upon a time..."

From the posted link: "The woman's boyfriend was not home at the time of the shooting, but arrived soon thereafter."

This does not pass the smell test for me.

I mean, I know 'cleaning' is overused, and some people want it to be kind of believable... but come on people, these stories are getting even more ridonkulous!

I know for a fact my 4 year old can't lift a shotgun. My 6 year old can barely lift it and certainly can't load it. It's always locked up anyway because...well because I care about the safety of my family.

Perhaps its a secret Brady or VPC planted news report. That is, after all, how they compile their statistics and "facts".

Always interesting how accurate the shots always are too. Not too hard for a 4 year old to start a car, but loading a shotgun. Hmmm.

Can a 4 yr old chamber the shell??? :headscratch

I just took my eight year old out for his first even shotgun experience a month ago, and he had such a tough time holding the gun, and it's a junior size, I had to help support it.

I still don't see a young child chambering the shell in a pump, semi, or O/U.....

The report says the child loaded the shot gun while under the sheets of a bed.
That would mean it wouldn't be necessary to actually hold the gun up.

We may never know what really happened but I tend to have faith
in what the police have concluded in their investigation.

I doubt the cops bought it either, although it looks like the reporter did.

I expect to see a follow on story soon that clears the 4 year old and details the boyfriend's arrest.

The old days are gone. Common sense is a liability in journalism schools today.
