Interesting. People barely react as he runs by.
Also: according to this timeline: http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/ut-gunman- ... -of-events" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
he fired his shots outside at 8:10, but did not kill himself on the sixth floor until 8:50 -- 40 minutes later. The video gives the impression that he pretty much ran all the way to the sixth floor, which would probably take all of five minutes or less. So where was he for 35 minutes? And where was the response? (Note that sirens don't begin until 15 minutes after the shots, and lockdown starts five minutes after that.)

If it had been me running, It would have taken longer than 5 minutes to get into the building and climb those stairs. Figure at least 20 minutes, accumulative, just stopping after each floor doubled over panting. Then 20 minutes climbing the stairs.
He was probably "taking cover" in the stairwells, pondering his plight.

OK, nothing new here.
First video shows that unlike Luby's gun-free zone, suicide shooter who killed over 20 people and wounded 20 more, Colton desired to harm no one else.
Second video is priceless; showing how police still arrive after an incident is over to warn any uninjured people to leave so they can investigate and clean up the aftermath.

It almost looks like the guy pushing the chair by the stairwell door at the end of the video starts to raise his shirt and then thinks better of it. That guy could've racked up quite a body count and just didn't. There you have it folks just ignore them and they will leave you alone. Its just like the peril sensitive glasses from the Hitchhikers Guide...If I can't see it, then it can't see me

I forgot to post this yesterday:

It's analysis of the dash cam footage from one of the UT police cruisers responding to the shooting.

Did you see the guy that walked out of the stairwell right behind him at the end of the tape?
If that was me, I would have headed the opposite direction rather than follow the guy up the stairwell!!!
This guy really didn't intend to kill anyone other than himself.

This is an excellent thread!
However, while some praise the police response time, we still must emphasize that police response times can never be fast enough.
Heck, even a vast police presence can't guarantee to stop the threat of a mobile shooter. (See Virginia Tech) Each and every student can be a victim at any moment... at the slightest pull of a trigger.
Reminds me of the old saying "When Seconds Count, Police Are Only Minutes Away"
Concealed Carry on Campus = FASTEST APPROPRIATE DEFENSE.

Re: Surveillance Footage of the 09/28/10 UT Shooting
The thing I got from the video is how fortunate we are that he chose only to take his own life.
Look at how many people are completely OBLIVIOUS to the guy running around with a rifle. You'd think the running alone would draw some sort of attention in a library.
If he had chosen to stop at each floor and fire at the people studying, this could have been a 40+ dead and even more injured incident, easily.
What type of statement is it about our current laws that we have to be grateful for the decision of a masked gunman not to take other lives?! He clearly had the opportunity.
