Spotted a CHL carrier

#1

Post by HarleyDave »

Yesterday, the wife and me visited the state fair of Texas. We recently, 10/8/10 took and passed our CHL and mailed in all paperwork 10/9/10 so while at the fair we were talking about concealed carry so for a little contest we thought we'd begin to look around to see if we could tell if anyone was carrying. Well, I LOST, as about 3 hours into this contest between the sexes  she proudly offers up the fact that she has spotted a person carrying. Of course, with male instinct I said NO WAY. She says to me, follow me, so like a good obedient puppy  I did and sure enough we found this couple and after several intense moments of review I could definitively tell this person had a concealed carry and plainly see the outline through his tight polo shirt. So, again, she was right "rlol" and of course glowing since her victory. My lesson, don't have any more contests with her and don't where tight knit polo shirts. Just sayin...

Only one I've ever been sure of is a guy carrying a baby glock in his back jeans pocket. But he was at his business and it was sticking out and quite obvious.

I always try to find one on the people I see wearing NRA jackets or Glock hats...still haven't positively identified one.

Funny you should mention that. Just this morning I was considering ordering a cap from Advanced Tactical:

Nice, I thought I spotted a CHL'er in a suit carrying last week, but learned he was a detective and it didnt matter that his full size semi auto was plainly visible through his suit coat. I found out after he went to shake someones hand and his badge was on his belt, when he lifted his hand up his jacket came back just enough to see the badge.

And yes it was a police badge, not a dorky CHL badge.

Only one I've ever spotted that I was certain about was at church. Guy in front of me leaned over and reached out with his right hand to pick something up off the pew and when he straightened back up his (Hawaiian) shirt kind of bunched up on his weapon and I could see a pretty decent outline of the grip, etc... Then he tugged on the bottom of his shirt on the right side and un-bunched it.

I'm carrying at the fair today, but that wasn't me. Not wearing a polo. I'm carrying OWB though so the bulge might be a little more obvious than it would be with the supertuck. For some reason, my pants get tighter the longer I'm at the fair which makes IWB start to get uncomfortable.

You missed the easy score. Shoulda just stood at the gate where the security wanders were and listened carefully... ;-)

We just rented out an office for our business and I met the secretary. She had a fanny pack on! My husband grinned and said, "I have a fanny pack too." I followed and said, "I do as well." She smiled and said, "Welcome to the club," with a wink. I should confess that we knew she carried before we met her, because she is a secretary for the dad of a good friend of ours. Still, I didn't know it was her until she introduced herself after I spotted the fanny pack and thought....yep, that's for carry!

I spotted one person carrying when we went to the fair. Same deal - tight shirt that printed if he wasn't turned the right way. It's fun for me to try to spot people carrying...but I'm usually not successful!

After months of looking, I had spotted my first one in September. Here is my post from another thread detailing the 'find':

I was at the UPS hub in League City - I was there sending my Tomcat back to Beretta for repair.

Of course, I had some pretty big clues - there was a camo painted truck parked right by the door advertising a certain online firearms and ammo store. When I got inside, the gentleman (the only other customer) was picking up several boxes of ammo. I was standing behind him - he was wearing a black t-shirt and I couldn't see any bulge at all. Then went around the counter so that the UPS lady would not have to lift the heavy boxes.

He leaned forward and there it was. He went from no bulge at all to printing like a Gutenberg press.

But I was still impressed. The t-shirt was not very loose on him and yet he was concealing very well until the leaned over. I sooo wanted to ask him about his rig - but, of course, I didn't.
... this space intentionally left blank ...
