Just gave a kid a stern warning..
...for not carrying his G23 while he had a valid CHL.
He ran a stop sign. He said his G23 is too big and bulky. I said so is a coffin, go get a G27 and ankle carry if you're gonna whine about it (this was in jest - we were both laughing). We chuckled and he asked me if he could carry and leave it in his car at A&M. I told him sure and to get a good way to secure it.
I just got moved to a better part of town for a bit (this guy moved to day shift). I like CHL holders and all, but I miss my old part of foot chases, drugs, and warrants galore.

I would tell him to wear it often, after a while, you feel naked without the weight of the pistol there, and it starts feeling like a piece of you is missing.

There should be a citation for that...just like there's one for running a stop sign.gigag04 wrote:...for not carrying his G23 while he had a valid CHL.

Thanks OP gigag04 for providing wise counsel to this young person that could save his or someone else.

Re: Just gave a kid a stern warning..
I started to post that I never got so lucky as to be pulled over by a LEO like gigag04 when I was younger... then,, ,,well,, I guess that was not a fair assesment... I was given my share of breaks from LEO's... But more often I was doing something wrong on bike or mustang that rightfully deserved the issuance of a citation....
Props to gigag04 for setting the young man straight.... offering concealed carry solutions to his concerns,, Now that my friends is "To Protect And Serve"![Smile5 :smilelol5:](./images/smilies/smilielol5.gif)

That's a great story. Now he'll be telling his buddies how a COP chewed him out for not having a gun. Only in Texas -- I love it!

You've got a long and exciting career ahead of you, and you'll have lots of opportunities to do the high intensity stuff along the way. To maintain one's perspective on life, it's good to take a breather from time to time in an area where some folks actually like to see you and you're not operating at 110% of capacity all the time.gigag04 wrote:...for not carrying his G23 while he had a valid CHL.

The ideal situation is to take these opportunities when they're available and you haven't reached the point where you need them, because if you burn yourself out to that point, Murphy says there won't be another assignment available. That's not a good place to be.

Re: Just gave a kid a stern warning..
I can't let this go. I'm going to start an Internet rumor that Texas is setting up check points to verify that all drivers age 21 and over have a handgun and that all drivers under 21 have a rifle or shotgun. I bet it'll go viral and Sarah Brady will be pontificating how Texas will be a ghost town in a month.

Yup, great stop. What's funny is that my pistol in '95 was a Glock 23, I was probably about his age, and I thought the same thing about carrying it.
OTOH, Crossbreed (and the like) didn't exist back then. Maybe you can carry a spare modern IWB holster in your trunk & do some community service education there on the roadside!
That reminds me, I need to see if Crossfire still needs more holsters for her ladies & concealed carry clinic @ TexasCHLForum day.

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal
