not that fast.

Folks on the board here that use fast print appear to be getting their license 30-45days.

Folks that have done paper & ink prints in my class have reported the full 60days or a little over.
I am the new kid on the block. Started in July. None of my August students have reported getting theirs yet.

W/ what Charles said about the ink prints haveing to be photoed & sent, that makes a lot of sence as to the time difference.

If you live in the Pineywoods region of East Texas, your only option is to drive to Tyler. I live in Marshall, and work in Longview. There is a FAST location less than a mile from my work place, but they don't do prints for CHL. I certainly hope that all locations will have to offer this service. Otherwise, this is going to be a major hassle for a lot of people.
If anyone knows of an L-1 location that isn't doing CHL prints, please get the address and any other identifying information for the franchise. Every L-1 location is required to do CHL prints.

Thanks,
Chas.
Thanks for the update. I didn't realize that this had gone into effect.

I don't see any need to "sell" new students on the benefit of digital prints over rolled prints. If they are new students they won't know that there ever was another way to do them. It is the way it is. The main issue is to decide if we as instructors see a need to lower our fee because we are no longer doing prints as part of the class?

Unfortunately, that decision may be made for us if other instructors start lowering their prices.

There is an instructor around here advertising classes for $65, but he doesn't do prints, and I don't think he's a notary.

With no notary for online apps, and DPS requiring digital prints, it sounds like he's all set.

Subject to the adoption by the Public Safety Commission of amendments to the Department’s administrative rules, beginning on March 1, 2011, Concealed Handgun Licensing will no longer accept hand rolled, ink fingerprint cards.

Not final yet but ….

And I just ordered a fingerprinting kit.

I can understand going digital to a point, however I have the equipment and have a lady from county come take the prints and we have not had a single applicant get their prints kicked back. So I only see this as another hassle for an applicant.

If a student doesn't apply online, and they schedule with L-1, how do they get their prints linked to their paper application ? Many of my students either don't have internet access or are going to have a hard time getting the app done on line, so I will still need to help them with the paper app.

I hope this works as smoothly as everyone thinks. As far as pricing, I'll have to see what the competition does. When I started, I was the highest priced in town, then I came down to match the next highest, and we are at $125. I don't see why some leave so much on the table. :headscratch I know a couple old guys here that only charge $50 of course like they say, you get what you pay for.
Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.

I was one of the biggest sceptics. When I went to Instructor School. Angelina County was one of the last areas with a long drive to any L-1 office. Closest was Houston or Tyler. From my classroom to either of them was just over 100 miles.

Now all L-1 locations do them. I have given my students the option since July. I have only had one lady choose rolled prints after knowing the time frame of electronic sending as opposed to the snail mail.

I have learned that folks who are not comfortable on the computer can learn easily if they want to. I set up a time for them to call & I walk them throu the 1st part. Getting on line & finding the DPS website. Show them where to start. AFter that it is info they know & when all is filled out click next.

We are going to start having a laptop at the class. Anyone wanting to apply on line will be able to there & have help during the break time.

I am an old school, bald headed, RedNeck, country boy.
I have said for a WHILE that I knew this was coming. :grumble :cryin :banghead: :fire :mad5
I know some of the old hands that have been doing the prints for ages & are really good at it dont have many rejected.
Over all it is a good thing & now even in the areas that I know of where folks still have to drive, say 25 miles, those are the really rural small town or community (where I wish I could live) & they still have to come to Lufkin to shop sometime.
So far I have only had one complaint from those that have chosen L-1.
Now I am almost ashamed to say it but I am a convert. :leaving
