Drive on the right side of the road

Ok, so this morning I was driving into work, I had left my firearm at home as my company doesn't allow me to carry at work. My wife was ahead of me by about 8 car lengths and all of a sudden, I notice a car driving where it shouldn't be. This is a 4 lane (two on either direction) undivided road in Grapevine (for those in Grapevine, it was Dove Loop over near the intersection of Dove Rd and Dove Loop). My wife and I were both driving in the far right lane, when I see this car drive towards me, in the lane to my left.

Wife got away ok, now I'm worrying about me and the driver gets right into my lane, heading right at me going about 40mph. I didn't have anywhere to go as I don't want to swerve left incase the driver woke up, so I just stood on my brakes and hoped he didn't hit me, and at least if he did I wouldn't have my 35mph to add. Driver gets back into the lane to the left and passes me. Both wife and I are ok, but at this point I'm shaking like crazy.

I've been thinking about it all day and it's been really bugging me that I didn't get a plate number or better look at the driver, but at the time I was more focused on watching the car and making sure I don't get hit. I've also been thinking about how it could have been different, the "what if's" start popping in. What if it was someone having a heart attack and really needed help? What if the person was stoned out of their mind and actually did hit me? I would have been helpless.

I think it's time to invest in an under-the-seat truck safe.

Given the time of day, my guess would be that there was a text message that needed attending to that was more important that your life.

I understand how you feel.
Several years ago I was side swiped by a guy that fell asleep at the wheel. It was a residental street in Plano and both of us were doing less than 30 MPH. As he drifted toward me, I swerved right to the curb, hitting my brakes and the horn at the same time. He woke up, and jerked to his right, clipping my driver's side rear fender. The whole event lasted less than two seconds.

He got out and we exchanged insurance info. His excuse was that he had worked a double shift and he was tired. I kept my cool, but I told him one of us could have died. I got mad after I got home but couldn't think of anything to do about it. Some people take chances they shouldn't take.

I'm just glad to be here today.

I wanna know what kind of gun you carry that will stop a motor vehicle, and where I can get one!

BTW, glad you are OK. I know how scary that situation is. Happened to me a few years ago on I75 in downtown Dallas.

It wouldn't helped on the avoiding getting hit part, but you never know who's behind the wheel of the other vehicle. As SlickTX mentioned above, I'm sure it was just someone that was too busy answering a text message, but, like I said all of the what-if's have gone through my head. What if it was a stolen car and the driver was drugged up? Or what if it was on my way home, and the driver was a belligerent drunk upset that I was in his way...

It also could just be a confused elderly person. Have seen that numerous times over the years. They get on and go the wrong way, then get all flustered as to why there are cars heading at them when they think they are right.

I drive that same exact stretch of road every day, I've seen my share of "doh!!" driving.

I just got back from Australia a couple of weeks ago. I think there are a few folks over there having a similar conversation about my driving.
