I have no idea. I have not visited it in years. It certainly is not 51%. But why go there and wait hours to get seated when there are corn dogs and funnel cakes and fried everything on the midway?

Can't tell if the The Old Mill Inn is 51% or not from the database since they don't have a Food and Beverage license, only CB, LB and PE. Texas3006.com doesn't show them as posted, but they could be. Would be a good one to find out from a Fair goer.

Got curious, and since I never plan to go there, I called them. Lady I spoke with stated there is a sign on the door stating no concealed handguns. Not sure if it is a totally compliant sign, but she said it was outside the door.

My curiosity tended more toward the theoretical as to why the officer would warn that it was off-limits, rather than practical due to impending visits. Indeed I think I can find enough to eat just walking around the fair. By the way, if it's in the fair, is it not on city property?

Well that's obviously not a 51% sign then, as "No Concealed Handguns" is not in the verbiage of an official 51% sign.

IIRC, it reads "The licensed or unlicensed possession of......" etc...

Someone who goes there, get pictures, and check their TABC License if you have a chance, let us know the 'official' answer!

My wife just went to the fair. She purchased her ticket and asked to see the gate supervisor. She came right over and asked her how she was doing. She then asked if she had her ticket and said to follow her in. She was walked over to the DPD officer who was very pleasant, he looked at the id's and said, "Okay." That was it, no "...you can't go to (insert location)," no questions about what she was carrying, just a smile and, "Have fun."

Too bad I can't vote twice, that's three for escorted to DPD and allowed in.

We just got home 10 minutes ago. We got there at about 12:30 this afternoon. We parked in Lot 11 and entered through the gate by the Chevy display.

We approached the wander from an oblique angle and had our IDs out and held up for her to see before she could even point her wand at us. She very discreetly said, "I need to have my supervisor escort you in to verify your ID." We only waited about 5 seconds because her supervisor was right there. The supervisor walked us over to a spot a few feet from the ticket booths and asked us to wait until she could bring the DPD officer over to check our IDs. She was back with him in under 30 seconds. He checked out IDs and told us to enjoy the fair. Nobody seemed interested in writing anything down. The security supervisor told us in low tones about the Cotton Bowl and the Old Mill being off-limits, we smiled and thanked her and the officer, and we were on our way.

All in all, I have to say that they handled it well and were courteous. It goes without saying that it would have been better to be able to just walk on through, but in as much as they were wanding everybody, and presumably for legitimate reasons, they actually seemed like they were as interested in keeping things on the low down as we were and were respectful of our confidentiality. I think that they must have gotten enough flack after last year's fiasco to understand that they don't need to treat us like criminals.

I have no complaints about how it went.

...now the fried beer on the other hand was a huge let-down. I'm just sayin'....

I think some letters are in order commending them for the changes.
-They are not having their security handle it, but are referring all CHLs to commissioned police officers.
-They are not placing any burdens on CHL holders other than showing their CHLs to a commissioned officer.
-They have clearly pushed discretion, courtesy, and promptness in their training.
-They are not trying to document anything about the CHL holders.

I'd say some huge accolades are in order for their progress!
