Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
In a nutshell, after being threatened earlier, he shot through a closed door and window at a group of teens on his porch, then hid the gun and shell casings, and did not call police to report it. He was charged with manslaughter, Grand jury could have upped it to murder, but instead, voted, and didn't get the 9 votes to pursue the charges, so he is released. Looks like enough believed the attorney's "self defense" assertion.

"Police: Dad's Life Threatened by Teens"
Updated: Thursday, 08 Jul 2010, 1:58 PM CDT
"According to an arrest affidavit, Joseph Anderson, 32, went to Windermere Playground to pick up his stepdaughter who was hanging out with another male teen. Anderson got into a verbal confrontation with the teen, who allegedly threatened Anderson's life. Anderson dismissed the threat thinking that he was just a kid.
After returning to their home in the 1300 block of Ivy Bridge, Anderson told police that they received phone calls asking where they lived and another call stating that "they are going to shoot who ever opens the door."
20 minutes after the phone calls Anderson noticed six or seven teenagers walking up to his residence. Anderson recognized one of the teens as the boy in the park who had threatened him. ..." (Underline added)

Re: Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
For those who don't know, Pflugerville is a small city NE of Austin. It is close to where my little small town is. Although we don't have "gang," problems here, we do have a gang wanna be problem. A few quick cell phone calls later and an argument with one turns into a mob of thugs surrounding you. They act and behave just as any gang would and I can completely understand the step fathers fears. A mob acts like a pack of animals and I’m glad the law agreed with his protecting his family.
I’m am sick of these gang wanna be thugs.

Re: Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
Mr. Anderson made a mistake by not calling 911 to report the gang threatening his family, but I'm happy the grand jury realized the gang of thugs are the bad guys. I wish the DA charged the surviving thugs with the death of Daquan Wilson instead of charging a man protecting his home and family.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.

Re: Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
I agree, he should have called the PD. Retaliation would still occur. The PD would have driven up to see a group of thugs, holding up their pants and scattering in every direction, like roaches. A day or two later his tires would be flat or his kid jumped. Yes tires are replaceable but the danger for his family is real. Last year, 6 boys from one of these thug gangs jumped two kids inside the Hutto HS. Before the PD, who are stationed at the school could get there; they had managed to kick one kid, on the ground, in the head so many times that he almost died.Cobra Medic wrote:Mr. Anderson made a mistake by not calling 911

To be clear, I'm not suggesting he should have called 911 instead of shooting the thugs threatening his family.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
Re: Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
He shouldn't have hidden the gun or shell casings either.
But I'm glad he's being no-billed.

Re: Joseph Anderson, Pflugerville
One reason I posted this, in addition to benefit others to recognize the mistakes he made, and that some grand juries have sense, is that on the local news, the father of the deceased says he is "considering a civil lawsuit"

Should be interesting if he is sued.

His reason for considering a lawsuit? "These are some hard times right now, you know economically."

Happy to hear the grand jury issued a “no bill” and I pray the attacker's greedy dad's lawsuit goes nowhere fast.
This will only hurt a little. What comes next, more so.
