Wrong middle name

#1

Post by Xaved »

I received my CHL about a month back and recently when I was rearranging things in my wallet, I noticed that they misspelled my middle name on my CHL. So I called them this morning and they are going to fix it and send me a replacement license, and they requested for me to send back the old license when I receive the new one. My question is how do I send it back? Do I just switch it out, reseal, and write "return to sender" on the envelope before dropping it back in the mail?

I would send it certified with return receipt request.

I would also send it return-receipt if you send it back, but if you want to save the $$, you might want to call them back and check on if it really needs to be returned. Their own administrative rules say for you to destroy it. The employee you talk to may not be aware of the below rule, which came into effect in 2008.
Texas Administrative Code

TITLE 37 PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONS
PART 1 TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
CHAPTER 6 LICENSE TO CARRY HANDGUNS
SUBCHAPTER B ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES
RULE §6.14 Duplicate License

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A license holder may not possess more than one license to carry a concealed handgun issued by the department. A license holder who requests a duplicate license based on a change of name or address shall destroy the old license promptly upon receipt of the duplicate license.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Source Note: The provisions of this §6.14 adopted to be effective August 10, 2008, 33 TexReg 6148
USAF 1982-2005

If you mail it back, I would cut it in half first, for good measure. Certified mail plus postage for a first class letter is less than $3.50 if you want to do that.
When in doubt
