As horrible as it sounds, I can’t help but be amused by this. What an idiot.

"Deputies say marijuana and alcohol may have played a role in the shooting."
Why don't the reporters ever include the obvious? 'Stupidity may have played a role'

It's a reality that booze can chop 20 or 30 points off a person's IQ. That's why so many last words are "Hold my beer and watch this."
They also call marijuana dope for a reason.

By my math, that would put this genius in a deficit.seamusTX wrote:It's a reality that booze can chop 20 or 30 points off a person's IQ. That's why so many last words are "Hold my beer and watch this."

Wilmington is home to UNC-Wilmington and tv/movie studios. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cape Fear, Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill.
There are lots of rental beach houses in the area. It's also the end of the road for I-40.

From the news article:
The symptoms of alcohol and drug use are trouble, trouble, more trouble, and lying.Investigators found pot and alcohol present but will have to wait for a toxicology report to determine whether or not Rich was under the influence. His friends told deputies that Rich was not one to use or abuse substances.

I have nothing else to add, despite having spent many a pleasant day at Wrightsville Beach in New Hanover County.

Re: NC: Russian roulette Darwin award
It's slightly interesting that they ruled it an accidental shooting versus a suicide.

It's a matter of intention. The authorities also tend to rule accident when they can. Many families consider intentional suicide to be an unforgivable sin.
When I was a kid, suicides were not allowed have a funeral in my church. The church has somewhat eased up on that, but there still is a stigma.

Re: NC: Russian roulette Darwin award
I never thought anyone that wasn't suicidal would play that game to begin with. I can think of a million more sane things to do, that would leave me alive after the fact. I'm fairly sure that this guy had issues to begin with, but his friends don't want to point that out and incriminate themselves any further in the situation. It's sad that he died, but what did he expect the consequences of pulling the trigger to be. He put a loaded gun to his head, that right there is an act that should label this as a suicide once he consciously pulled the trigger.
I understand some of the reasoning for labeling it as accidental. However, I can't help but wonder how much more investigation, paperwork, and man hours are involved between the "accidental" and "suicide". I'm not saying anything against the LEO's involved with this case. It just seems like ruling this as an accidental shooting may be a means of conserving resources that are needed elsewhere IMHO.seamusTX wrote:It's a matter of intention.
