best shoot-em-up movies... need suggestions!
I am a new member of netflix. since i only work on weekends, i find myself watching lots of movies lately. I've always enjoyed shoot-em-up movies, cop stories, and how guns are used in the movie. last one i saw was edge of darkness by mel gibson. i think he had a glock 19. any suggestions? thanks in advance.

Anything with Denzel Washington will be good. Gene Hackman is good and by all means, don't pass up Hopalong Cassidy or Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall for westerns.

Any spaghetti western for me.
Big fan of Clint Eastwood so "For a few dollars more" and "A fistful of dollars" come to mind. All favorites are "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" and "Unforgiven"

If you like classic 1911s, Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis
Dirty Harry - surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet
Smokin Aces - female assassin with a .50-cal firing casino to casino in Vegas (or was it Atlantic City?)
The Road - not a shoot em up, but really shows the importance of having a gun (any gun) in the most extreme circumstances imaginable
Enemy at the Gates - probably best sniper movie ever made - true story
Open Range - one of best western shootouts ever put on film
SWAT - good displays of guns and tactics
Lethal Weapon series - all decent dude flicks
The Hurt Locker - great war movie with an intense enemy sniper scene and our guys returning fire with a .50-cal
Behind Enemy Lines - very underated movie - downed US pilot being hinted by an entire Serbian Army division

"Ronin" has some of the best shootin' and drivin' of any action film. Great script too.
+1 on any Denzel Washington film. Two of his best are "Man on Fire" and his recent "Book of Eli".
Why have all of the John Wayne movies not been mentioned? I can never pass up a Duke western.
Anygun

These are all good. Add the first spaghetti western, "Once Upon a Time in the West" to the list. There's a Henry Fonda in this one that you didn't see very often. The Annoyed Man wrote:Unforgiven

Add "Platoon" to your list while you're at it and for a real shoot out at the end, don't leave out "Open Range".
We think NetFlix is the dillberries. We've seen some really great movies that we've never heard of. OTOH, we've seen some that "They" said were great that we thought were in smellovision. Don't be afraid to look at the oldies unless you just have to have a lot of cussin' and semi-nekid people in your movies.
One other thing: we thoroughly enjoyed and could hardy wait for the next segments of the TV series "Boston Legal" and "West Wing". We wouldn't even try to watch these series on TV because of all of the commercials.
We gave up on the "Sopranos" because of the profanity. There are times when the profanity is appropriate but not being from New Jersey, we thought every other word to be excessive.
Good viewing! Don't be afraid to rate your viewing either.
