5.11 Tactical Vest

#1

Post by beerplug »

Looking forward to the coming fall and starting to change the wardrobe some. I bought a 5.11 tactical vest the other day and I'm having trouble coming up with a way to get my Glock 26 to stay in place inside the hidden pocket. I know they sell a clip in holster for this, but was looking to see if anyone had an alternate method with this vest. Thanks!

5.11 sells a holster that Velcros inside the pouch that does the job nicely. I don't recommend it as a place for your primary weapon though. IMHE, any gun that's on a loose article of clothing can easily be misplaced, and will certainly be difficult to draw when you really need it.

:iagree:

The 5.11 velcro holster does an excellent job of holding the gun securely in the vest pocket.

I also agree that it's a poor place for a primary weapon because:

1. Even a light, compact gun like a snubby .38 makes the vest feel distinctly "unbalanced" to the wearer.
2. If you wear it unfastened in front as many do, the side with the gun "hangs" differently when you bend or move.
3. Drawing the gun quickly is a nonstarter. It's a two handed operation - one to hold the edge of the vest still so your other hand can pry apart the velcro closure and reach in for the gun. Without a hand to stabilize the vest, drawing one handed is not a quick operation.

I think the holster pocket is better used to hold your wallet or some other item you'd rather keep concealed. YMMV.

I have a 5.11 vest & all the above is correct. It is great for cooler weather. That is when I wear mine. Range time, hunting in warme weather & hard wear times. They are great, tough, & plenty of pockets for gear, ammo, camera & such. I do keep my weapon on my belt. Vest for cover & above.
