I think a lot of those people need to "do the math" - there are clearly cost incentives to join. Either that or they don't shoot enough for it to be worth their time. In that case, what do they care how much it costs?
Just my $.02
Well . . . that's quite a first post. I didn't laugh at anything in those threads and I have done the math.
Well, I did the math for my needs and wife. I am a member at PSC and will NEVER give it up. I love the PSC. However, my lovely wife does not like to sweat, so there are a few months in the year getting her out to shoot is hard. So I did get the membership. It just about, maybe not quite but just about evens out for me. And it allows me to get my wife out more than she does. That is important to do so I am glad I did it. Now if I can just get some time away to go and play!

I'm just saying that like any introductory deal you have to do some calculations to see if it works for you. For instance, after the first year's admittedly big $1000 fee, the elite level is $250 per year. Given that you get a 10% discount on everything in the store, free CHL training, free range weapon rentals, and free FFL services, you could easily break even or even net some savings. Does that work for everybody? No. But I think it was a pretty well-thought-out price level on their part. With a big venture like this store opening, I'm sure a little infusion of liquidity was welcome.
Sorry if I came off a little obnoxious. I'm a transplant to Texas from New York. That's just how we are sometimes! ;)
I have always found prices at the arm Room on the steep side. But, I'm willing to pay for service. And there is no question that they DO provide outstanding customer service and product support. That's why i purchased my daily carry from them. I wish them the best in their future. But, I do my at PSC. And now that Best Shot is open just down the street from me I'm all set!
Thanks, Charles. I've been surfing through the different topics and I'm amazed by the wealth of good information. You've got a good thing here (and it's proof that the Internet is not a wasteland).

I went there Sunday, I took the Saiga 12 and the Sub2000.
Open 7 days a week, 9AM to 10PM.
Bringing your own targets, no problem.
$12 per hour, $6 for additional shooter in same lane, $3 for each additional 15 minutes. They take your DL at arrival, and you get it back when you pay.
I think they have 15 lanes, the first 5 are for anything, rifles, pistols, combat shotguns, I didn't see any restrictions and there were a wide variety of folks shooting high powered guns.
The lanes are 65' long, the target carriers are electronic and the best I've seen.
Air circulation is fantastic, the range was around 75F (and it was 100F outside when we were shooting as most of you know) and I never felt as though I was inhaling anything bad, and there was a guy shooting a big bore rifle 2 lanes over.
They allow steel cased ammo.
The range officer was one of the nicest folks, he showed us how to operate the targets, gave us a quick safety talk (keep the muzzles down range, the usual) and said have fun. After the Saiga destroyed the target backing he came over and replaced it and smiled while doing it.
You stand on grating, the empty's go down into it or down range.
There is a lounge area behind the range, you can have a rest on nice couches or chairs, have a soda and watch thru windows. This is the nicest range I've been to.
The store itself is now open 7 days too, the same hours as the range. I bought a 5.11 tactical shirt with 2 inner hidden pockets for guns for $40, a good deal IMO
The range officer has a stapler and will staple your targets for you. If you use a staple gun like me, it doesn't work as well as a plain old stapler, I will be adding it to my range box.
I'm a member of PSC and will never give that up, but in August or bad weather or getting my wife to practice in anything other than those 2 days a year of fabulous weather, I'll be going to the Arms Room.

Poked my head into the Arms Room last week Thursday. Folks, if you are in the area, this is THE best commercial range in Houston right now. Friendly folks, superior staff, incredible facilities...It is as close as anything I've seen in recent memory to the Scottsdale Gun Club. Mr. James and Travis were incredilbly nice folks and it was a pleasure to meet them. The Range Master, Brian Faught was also top notch. I truly wish I lived in the Friendswood/League City area because the Arms Room would be my favorite hangout.

When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

Larry is a great guy to deal with. I have been doing business with him for years and he is always fair and smarter than hell.

They were pretty steep... I am a member at PSC and like someone previously stated, will not give it up. If I recall correctly the fees per year began at $500 and up if you wanted to add more people. I shot there this past weekend and the facilities are very nice, they did a great job with it.
If it meets the needs of the community it will be a landmark for shooters, I wish them all the best and hope to buy reloading supplies if the prices are competitive. However, the prices at this time are too rich for my pocket.
I went shooting there last weekend, and the range is very nice with reasonable rules. You can shoot any handgun you want and rifles .30 an under. Steel case ammo is fine (good for those of us with surplus guns). They charge $12/hr, with additional time going for $3/15min, I think you can have a second person in the lane with you for an extra $6. It seemed really well run with helpful range officers, and a convenient hand washing station. The prices in the store are really high, and I was a bit disappointed to see so much of the floor space dedicated to 5.11 clothing rather than more guns (maybe that will change as they get more settled in). I won't be buying a membership, but for the times when I want to shoot inside this will be my first stop.
