Apply online before or after class?

Post by Heritage1 »

Fist post, hello everyone! :tiphat: Headed to the July 19th class.

So with all the changes lately, do you have your students apply online to the state before or after they take your class? Reasoning for your answer would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!

I'll be in the July 19th class, too.

You probably won't be able to prevent students from applying before getting to class. And if they haven't applied before they get to class, you should probably have a packet available for them. At least that's the way Crossfire-Training does it.

Where are you located, and where are you going to have your students shoot?

Congrats and welcome to the fourms. :tiphat:
Good luck on your class... :thumbs2:
I have a 50/50 mix on that. If they apply online I think it helps speed some things along , but I do have plenty of packets if they didnt apply online.
See that your in Garland , I am also..

Thanks for the welcome!

SJF: It wasnt so much a question of preventing or requiring them to, more of a question of what the current instructor preference would be since the change in proceedure with the state.
I'm in North Garland just NE of Dallas.

garcia: I thought it would be easier had they applied online already but wasnt sure. Maybe we could get together sometime for lunch or something. Where are you teaching out of?

Since I'm not an instructor "yet" how would I obtain a supply of packets for those students that havent applied online for my first few classes before I can get them from DPS? How long does it usually take to get extra packets from DPS?

After you got through class and pass everything you will get an instructor number , then you will be able to order packets.
Like I said , I do it both ways , some student have already applied online it helps cut down on paperwork , but most dont have them thats why I keep them instock. :tiphat:

I inform my students of the option to apply online prior to our class. If they do not apply, I still send them to the website to apply after our class. I always keep packets on hand just in case they do not want to apply electronically.
