Where to stash it
We have decided to take a cruise in October leaving Galveston. I do not want to travel without carrying but I know they do not allow weapons on board. I dont want to leave it in the car and my 2 kids remaining down there live in Spring. I could leave it with them but they do not have a safe and do have young childred that have not been around guns much. Also not sure about traveling all the way across Houston unarmed.
Any suggestions?

Find a bank near the port and get a safety deposit box.

I say find a good hiding place in the car. Maybe under the spare tire or something.

My house.
BTW, if you pay online in advance, you can save a few bucks. The parking lots seem pretty secure. If any problems occur there, they're hushed up.

try something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Biometric-BIOBOX-Fi ... 563acf1958
i wouldn't pay more than $120 for 1 however, I bought 2 for about $115 each + shipping.
yes, I know, in your car, they could still get the safe, but its biometric, so other than them cutting the cable that you wrap around the seat, or them removing the seat, the safe will stay in the car.
If you are worried about them steal the safe, and breaking it open, the put a trigger lock on the weapon as well.
or leave it at your house

RPB,if they are open to it buy a small safe like teamless lists (some keypad models are half that) designed for shelf mounting and gift it to one of your kids; use it whenever you are in town. Everyone wins.

Re: Where to stash it
I would just hide it in your car, in the trunk or underneath a tire. Just a place they cant do a smash and grab, since my vehicles have become experts for smash and grabs in Houston, they go through your glove box and throw everything all over the vechicle, they go through your center console and throw everything all over your vehicle, then they rip out your stereo but only if it is something custom that you have put in they want. Other than that they dont have a lot of time and from the three smash and grabs I have experienced they dont go through the trunk, etc.... First two they got nothing, last one they got my Maglite.
I never leave my gun in my vehicles in Houston, but then again I have never actually taken the time to hide one really well in my vehicle either. There are a few places I could put my pistol they would never look.
Summation, just hide it really well and you should be fine.
Most of them are just kids or adults that have an IQ of a 4 year old. They are not exactly Paris Diamond Theives!

Re: Where to stash it
The last part of January I hid my pistol and locked our car in a parking lot for cruise guest only. This was inside a locked chain link fence with razon wire on top. I have done this several times in Galveston. My gun was there when we got back. The end result was a happy 50th wedding anniversary.

If I'm ever "in that boat" so to speak, I'll gladly take you up on that offer.seamusTX wrote:My house.

Re: Where to stash it
We have been on 3 of the cruises in Galveston but we don't live that far away. I never even wanted to leave either one of our vehicles in Galveston outside in the salt for a week, and then the thing about break ins. Fortunately we have some friends that take us and pick us up. But we do the same for them. But that's just me. I'm a lot more concerned for my 30 something thousand dollar vehicle than my 500 dollar Glock. That's the next thing I was gonna suggest. Do you have a gun you don't care that much about? I have several. Even a cheap shotgun or rifle. I have a Chinese SKS that would be perfect for that.

Re: Where to stash it
I am often at odds with the safe guys on this issue. The BGs don't know a gun is there to steal, so I take my chances. I don't know what the deductible is, but I chance it anyhow.

Jim, thanks, I may take you up on the offer. We are going to check with the kids this weekend and may just leave the truck with them and have them drop us off and pick us up. Isn't that what kids are for? But if they are not going to be around, I will take you up on your offer. Thanks again.
