July 5-9 Class Change of Location
I just got an email from the DPS and the class location for the July 5-9th class has been moved from the St. Micheal Plaza to Georgetown. Here is a copy of the email. I am sure this will put a rush on the change of motel rooms. We originally were going to stay at St. Michaels Plaza, and were having some concerns, so I am sort of relieved that they have changed the venue. Now we are staying at the LaQuinta in Georgetown. I certainly hope that folks don't have the same security issues that were taking place during the previous classes.
Just remember shot placement is much more important with what you shoot than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Well, that's cute! Wonder if they'll move the July 19th class. I have non-refundable reservations at the Holiday Inn Express.
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."
Never Forget.
Never Forget.

Re: July 5-9 Class Change of Location
I can only assume that if they had security issues large enough to move the 5-9 class it would apply to classes after that as well.
Luckily, I didn't make my reservations this time through Expedia, which would have been nonrefundable.
I finally got something right for once.
Now if they move it again, I am screwed.

I got the same email and are thankful the class location has changed. Got on Google earth and place marked it and come to find out this location is closer to the range than St Michaels. The area even looks better. I'm going to change my reservations to the La Quinta too.

Re: July 5-9 Class Change of Location
I've been at the St. Michael Plaza since Sunday afternoon. There has been one vehicle broken into, and two vehicles stolen from the parking lot. I believe those are the correct statistics.
I've noticed one exterior door that CAN'T be locked and a few that won't lock unless you pull them closed. On Monday, housekeeping neglected to make sure that the door to my room was secured after they cleaned. Luckily nothing came up missing.
Several of us who opted not to relocate have been spending time making periodic passes through the parking lot. The fact that they have moved the remaining classes is a very good thing.

I too have been at the Instructors class this week. One of the vehicles stolen belonged to a Temple LEO.
I think 2 broken into and 2 stolen in 4 days of class. I did not stay at the St Michaels, and I'm glad I didn't.
Nasty place. A/C worked sporatically the first couple of days. Lots of transients lurking about this area.
The property is run down, shabby and in disrepair.
The move to Georgetown is a major step up in class and facilities. BE GLAD the class is moving to a new
location.

Classroom size was probably the reason.

If, for some reason, your class isn't moved, make sure you park on the back side of the hotel. Go around the back, and park on the far end (nearest 183). I think all of the vehicles that got hit were in the front parking lot since it made for a faster getaway.sjfcontrol wrote:Well, that's cute! Wonder if they'll move the July 19th class. Im in this week's class too, and KC5AV is correct, I havent had any problems, but the fact that some have is reason enough to move the class..... Not to mention the lack of tables for the students, air conditioning not working, transients and prostitutes in the area, and overall lack of security.KC5AV wrote: The fact that they have moved the remaining classes is a very good thing.

Why would the letter from the state start out "Due to security issues" if class size was the reason?
Does the state have any reason to lie about the reason for the move?

I was in the June 1-4 class the St. Michael's facility was horrendous. Be glad you're moving to Georgetown.

There's your reason for the "security issue".gemini wrote:I too have been at the Instructors class this week. One of the vehicles stolen belonged to a Temple LEO.
