Check out the Slide Guard from High Noon Holsters. It looks like exactly what I'm looking for and it comes in horsehide. Only problem is it takes 10 to 14 weeks to get it.

I'm using a Don Hume #10 Jit Slide holster for my 3.5" 1911. It's small and very comfortable. It takes a good belt to hold everything in place. I had to put my 1911 in and out of the holster about 50 times to get it to where the pistol is easy to draw. Not very expensive.
