Pinched in Cedar Park

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Pinched in Cedar Park

#1

Post by Mando'a »

Howdy all,

Had my first LEO contact today while carrying.

I made a left across double yellow lines (just wasn't thinking), and was pulled over by a Cedar Park Motorcycle cop.

He asked for license and insurance. I told him at that point, that I hold a Texas CHL and had the weapon on my person.
He then asked where it was, I told him it was on my right hip. He said to keep my hands where he could see them. He didn't look surprised at all.
He wrote me the ticket and was on his way.

I'm curious since I can't find the code, is this a misdemeanor? Anyone know fees, etc? Could I lose my CHL?

The violation on the ticket:
CITATION: Turning Across Dividing Section

received new chl 12/09/09

wait a minute, how is turning across double yellow lines illegal.... Does there have to be a break in the lines. I was under the impression double yellow meant no passing in either direction. If this is illegal i learned something new today as I never ever even remember reading that was illegal. Someone with the answer please provide link..... Now if he drove over a center divider or median, that would be different but a double yellow line, seriously!!!

Your OP's closing line was "TIA", which caught my eye
since it's close to my screen name's abbreviation.

What did you mean by "TIA"? That's a new one to me.

Look through section 545 of the Texas Transportation Code.
It's got all sorts of fun little Gotchas that most people don't know about.

Don't know about this one specifically, but my favorite is 545.060(b), which basically says you can't pull into a Center lane on a road from a side street/driveway to merge into traffic to the right.
I see people doing it alllll day every day ;)

Wow, I didn't know that was illegal. I always thought you
could go the center turn lane as long as you could get to it
safely (one direction of traffic allowed you to reach it).

What frosts me is the people who enter and leave the center
turn lane without signalling what the heck they are doing

AND

those who enter the center turn lane and use it as another
traffic lane. Sheesh!

Nope. The majority of other states in the US allow it. Texas isn't one of them, but that's where that belief and habit comes from ;)

That little tidbit was almost the only useful piece of information from our last defensive driving course.

I normally do a "TIA," when asking for advice. Recently, I've been so busy, I'm not certain when I can come back to check the forum.

So I do it, as not to be rude.

Maybe that's why I did it then. I lived in several other States, before I made Texas my Homeland.

For years after I returned from Germany, I wouldn't do a right turn on a red light.

The whole using the center turn lane for merging frosts my hide, especially the idiots who actually drive in it. It is illegal and should be enforced.
