I don't understand this statement. Are you a security officer where you work? If not, then does that mean you CC to and from work and that in your "security" capacity you are not allowed to carry a gun?

Yeah, I work nights for a company here in Grapevine. They commission all of us, but we're still not armed... so I carry (in my vehicle) to and from work, but not AT work. Most of us are CHL holders too, so it's weird for us to be disarmed at the place we're supposed to be protecting

Totally understand. I remember when I was "guarding" the flight line at Cubi Point one night in the Phillipines. One of my planes, Tomcat, was on the beach and I was standing fire watch from 0000-0400 with a flashlight and a night stick. Nothing happened. However, later the next day we find out that a couple of prowling SEALS picked up an armed local trying to sneak on base with some explosives to try and blow up one of the planes. So, now I'm thinking, "what in the world am I doing out here with a flashlight and stick?" I'm starting to feel a little like a canary. Thankfully, we pulled out of port a couple days later and I didn't pull another watch until then.

There is a large security company in the Clear Lake area (of Houston) that has a large number of armed officers that I see all the time out with their weapons doing things like grocery shopping, eating with their families, at the mall and etc. etc. A lot of the time I have seen a couple of their people in just khaki's and a white polo shirt. Not that I have a problem with it but I sometimes wonder if it is completely legal and would hate to see a guard get arrested because someone wanted to prove a point and call the police for a guard running to the store to buy some diapers while he was in uniform.

I would be curious to see some causes/incidents relating to this topic.

Was there any embroidery per chance? I know for instance that security contractors for special outdoor events and bicycle patrols and what not sometimes dress like that, but they have the guards last name and first initial as well as the company name and "Security" emblazoned on opposing breasts.

Absolutely, they have their name and the companies badge embroidered on opposing chest. The only concern I have is that from a distance you think police officer, you don't know that they are security officer's until they are right up on you.

Anytime someone is armed (and in a uniform) they better have better sense than to be taking out the family or doing shopping at walmart. That's a sure way to take a bullet...
