From my Hurricane Rita Files
I've seen some other posts with photos of police cars in action on this forum. This section is the closest I could find that these would fit.
I thought these photos would be of interest;
Top photo: DPS Black & Whites enroute to Beaumont (after Rita last year)in groups of 25.
Bottom Photo: DPS Black & Whites enroute to Beaumont refuel at Houston Regional Office -Only available fuel in Houston.

I took a couple of pictures on the way out of Houston (a day before the panic hit)...
And there was still a ton of traffic all around town...
We took the Beltway 8 east around town (mostly two lanes) to I-45 thinking it might no tbe TOO bad...Wrong...
I have a picture I took on my cell phone that showed a "wide load" being escorted by an HPD motor scooter officer...
Now...Don't get me wrong, I am all for the continuation of commerce and making money and all that...And loads like that need escort...
But knowing that the majority of traffic at that time were people wanting to get out of town with a force 4 (soon to be 5) coming right at Houston, you'd think that most commercial loads are insured, right???
Park that sucker! Leave it...
It took up all of the lane and part of the other making passing and congestion worse than Thanksgiving Wednesday!
I am hoping the evac plans have taken into account the suspension of all non-essential commercial traffic in effected areas...
I just saw this topic and thought I would annoy, with a whiny rant for a change...

Ohhhh, and on the way back (more than the way up and out of town)...
Those people who think they are above waiting in line like the rest of us who are plodding along, being very patient and polite to those around us...
The knuckleheads driving down the shoulder lanes (at highway speeds and above) not only need to be cited, but arrested, vehicle impounded, and jailed...
I made sure that while we were trucking along at the stately 0-5 mph that evy trooper we did see, I had my younger and more agile nephew hop out (he's a WR on his team) and grab a couple of cold drinks out of the cooler in the back of the truck and run them over to the guy as they were writing the tickets...
I thought it was a nice gesture of appreciation while we were on the way back that Sunday...
Not that it really mattered...

When Rita came through I was attending Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches and I remember someone stealing a full gas can out of the back of my jeep >_< (It was locked down with a bike cable, they cut it) On the positive side, it was filled with "White Gas" for my 2-burner camp stove, and whoever ended up using it undoubtably ended up having to have some expensive repair work done to their fuel system ^_^
